Bindi Irwin famously won Dancing With the Stars in the US ten years ago, and now her brother Robert Irwin is getting ready to compete in the series and hopefully take home the Mirrorball Trophy. The youngest Irwin sibling is one of 14 celebrities competing in the long-running dance competition this year.

This year’s Dancing cast appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday, and during their introduction, the hosts of the show revealed to Robert that they had a message from Bindi to share with him. Robert had no idea Bindi had shared a message with the GMA team and appeared genuinely stunned.

“Hey, Robert! I am so excited that you are embarking on your Dancing With The Stars journey – oh my goodness!” she began her message. “After being on the show ten years ago, my best advice is to just lean into the experience. This is going to change your entire life, and you are going to remember this forever.

“I am so proud of you, let your personality shine, you’ve got this and I can’t wait to cheer you on every week.”

Robert’s dancing partner Witney Carson even teared up while watching the message.

“Aw, she’s the best,” he said. “She’s just one of my biggest inspirations and that’s why I’m doing the show, it’s a childhood dream, you know?”

He and Witney shared a hug as he added, “And I can’t believe we get to do this together? It’s going to be amazing!”

Fans loved the show of sibling love, with one person commenting on Instagram, “Steve would be so proud of those two.”

“I just know their father, Steve Irwin, is smiling down on his beautiful, talented children,” another said. “They reminds me so much of him. I was a big fan, and I’m so happy that his family is carrying on his work.”

“Why am I always crying when I see this family?” a third joked. “I love them so much.”

“Actually crying,” someone else added, with another person adding, “So sweet! Made me cry!”

Elsewhere in the chat, Robert was asked what he thought his father, who died after a stingray’s barb pierced in him in the chest on September 4, 2006, would have thought of the show and the 21-year-old replied, “Crikey, I don’t know, like all of the rhinestones and the glitter and all of that, it’s a lot, but you know, I think he always said it was really funny. He’d always go, ‘I don’t care if people remember me, I want people to remember my message and what I stand for.’”

“And I think people remember his message and him,” he continued. “I mean, he just showed what it was to truly live life at 100% and above anything else, he was just the greatest dad, always there for us.”

“I just hope to keep his legacy alive, his spirit, his sense of just love for life,” he shared. “And so if I can bring that kind of energy into the ballroom and honour him and his legacy, then I’ve done my job.”
