The competition has barely started yet this year’s Blockheads had to make a critical call.

Before them, stood five near-identical houses. The house they would choose to renovate could play a huge role in winning an extra $100,000 and ultimately The Block.

But after a history-making House Decider Challenge, not every team was happy with the house they got – as you can see in the video above.

Of the five houses this year, two have a flat roof and three have a gable (pitched) roof.

Perth couple Han and Can “were gunning” on pitched-roof House 1.

The others were simply “not an option”.

As the results of the House Decider challenge were announced, Houses 1, 3 and 5 were quickly snatched up.

“Are you joking?” said Han. “OK, now I’m going to have a meltdown.”

Partner Can was put on the spot and in a shock call, chose the “wrong” house.

So while the other teams were celebrating, Han and Can were having a tough time with their decision.

“It’s ugly,” protested Han. “It’s so ugly… I hate it.”

This year’s House Decider challenge was like nothing contestants had seen before.

Day one of The Block 2025 coincided with Daylesford’s annual ChillOut Festival, the longest-running pride event in regional Australia.

The teams were given two hours to design and build a float – which they would show off front-and-centre during the festival’s parade!

Judging those floats were returning Block judges Darren Palmer, Shaynna Blaze and Marty Fox, who for the first time would be meeting all five teams in Episode 1.
