Magda Szubanski has shocked fans on social media with the news that she is battling a “rare and fast-moving” blood cancer. The beloved actress and comedian, best known for her role as Sharon Strzelecki in Kath & Kim, shared a video on Thursday afternoon revealing that she had been diagnosed with stage four Mantle cell lymphoma.

Mantle cell lymphoma is an aggressive and rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The 64-year-old told followers that the diagnosis is “serious”, but she’s started the Nordic protocol, which is “one of the best treatments available”.

“I’m lucky to be getting absolutely world-class care here in Melbourne,” she wrote. “I won’t sugar-coat it: it’s rough. But I’m hopeful. I’m being lovingly cared for by friends and family, my medical team is brilliant, and I’ve never felt more held by the people around me.”

Magda explained that Mantle cell lymphoma is an “obscure” form of cancer which was only discovered via a breast screening when doctors discovered her “lymph nodes were up”.

“TBH, I’ve been feeling pretty ratshit for ages. So I asked for extra bloods and – voila!” she continued. “So the take away is – get tested and listen to your body!

“For now, just know I’m in good hands, good spirits—but I reserve my yuman right to be a cranky old moll.”

Magda’s followers have since taken to the comments to share their well wishes, with Carrie Bickmore, who lost her first husband Greg Lange in 2010 to brain cancer, writing: “Oh babe. F**k. You’ve got this. Yelling at you now from a distance that we all love you.”

“You look beautiful as a Goog my love. And the Mutley laugh has me thinking you’re going to be good at this. We’re right behind you. Love u and see you soon,” Poh Ling Yeow replied, followed by Tracy Grimshaw who shared, “I’m so sorry to hear this Magda, but this cancer has no idea what it’s taken on does it? You come from strong, odds-defying stock and you’ll beat this. Much love”.

“Lots of love and support to you beautiful one,” added Rove McManus, who lost his first wife Belinda Emmett to bone cancer in 2006.

“Right there with you darling,” Sam Neill responded, while Peter Helliar said, “Sending you all my love Mags!!!!! You (and we) know how strong you are!!”.

“Oh Mags, I’m so sorry to hear this s**t news, you’re such an inspiration to so many of us, an icon for the ages,” Magda’s Ride Like A Girl co-star Teresa Palmer commented. “Hope you can feel all the strength being sent your way from our crew and everyone who loves you”.j
