We have a last-minute announcement from the Montreal Canadiens.

We mentioned it to you literally just a few minutes ago that reinforcement could be on the way:

Well, it has just been confirmed.

Kent Hughes has just announced the signing of big forward Tyler Thorpe, who is realizing his dream and landing an entry-level contract with the Canadiens.

Signing alert: Forward Tyler Thorpe signed by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens

What a great story for this recent 5th-round pick of the Habs at the draft.

Here’s an excerpt from the official press release:

“Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract (2025-26 to 2027-28) with forward Tyler Thorpe.

Thorpe also signed an AHL professional tryout for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.”

And here is the full press release.

So it’s ultimately a similar scenario to Jacob Fowler, for Thorpe.

Tyler Thorpe, age 19, is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound giant who was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, 130th overall.

This season in the WHL, he recorded 52 points in 68 games, including a solid 27 goals, and added 69 penalty minutes.

He also finished the season with a positive plus-minus of +11.

Last season, he had collected 44 points in 51 games, but with a negative plus-minus of -9.

More details to follow.
