It’s rare that we hear this kind of statement about the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis.

He is always very “down to earth” when it comes to his players, for obvious reasons, but now a statement from the excellent Marco D’Amico makes things very interesting.

On The Shaun Starr Show podcast, D’Amico outright made the following statement:

“Martin St-Louis truly feels that Ivan Demidov is a star in the making!”

That says a lot about the talent and potential of the young number 93 of the Canadiens.

The head coach sees something very big for him.

Martin St-Louis truly believes Ivan Demidov will become an NHL star

And rest assured, St-Louis has a plan for Demidov.

If you think Demidov will be “stuck” on the second line all year, think again!

“I want to be clear on this!

It could really happen that Demidov finds himself on the Montreal Canadiens’ top line this season.”

– Marco D’Amico

Martin St-Louis will give Demidov every chance necessary to become an NHL star.

Yes, St-Louis is likely to give him a shot next to Nick Suzuki at some point, possibly even as early as training camp.

I also wonder what this means for Demidov’s spot on the power play, and it’s becoming harder and harder to imagine him being “pushed aside” from the first unit-especially with his growing chemistry with young Lane Hutson!

Exciting times ahead!

But in short, know that Martin St-Louis holds Demidov in very, very high regard, and if he ends up on the third or fourth line at some point, let’s remember this statement before panicking.

It will likely be for a very specific purpose, and most importantly, it will likely be (very) short-term.

Can’t wait for the season to begin!
