Married At First Sight’s Jacqui Burfoot and Clint Rice have copped quite a bit of backlash since announcing their relationship at the show’s reunion dinner party. Not only have the pair been accused by fans of having a ‘fake relationship’, but their co-stars have also described their surprise engagement on Sunday after just five months of dating as a ‘publicity stunt’.

The controversial couple are now asking people to put their money where their mouth is and bet on their relationship to fail so they can use the proceeds to fund their honeymoon. In response to one social media user who said they wished their relationship was listed on Sportsbet, Jacqui encouraged people on her Instagram Story to find a way they could bet so she would receive the money.

“If anyone has a platform, please let us know! Very keen to raise money for our honeymoon and people can put their money where their mouth is!” she wrote.

Jacqui defends her controversial proposition

Jacqui has since doubled down on her proposal during an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, saying she fully supports this happening because it’s a “win-win”.

“Someone suggested someone should put it on Sportsbet, and I was like, sign me up! Literally, please put this on Sportsbet, but can I collect the proceeds, or can we bet against everyone? Because we need to raise money for our honeymoon, and this would be the perfect opportunity,” she shares.

“Money talks. If you want to bet against us, literally do it, and we are happy. It would be the biggest, ‘Put your money where your mouth is or shut up’ kind of moment.”

The outspoken bride believes that if people aren’t willing to bet money on whether their relationship is ‘real’ or ‘fake’, then it’s probably because “deep down you know it’s real”.

“I really want to do this. I don’t know if it’s ethical, but I want to do it,” she laughs.

While it’s extremely unlikely this would ever happen as it would be considered insider trading, it hasn’t stopped people from weighing in on Jacqui’s unique proposition.

“So she wants people to bet on their relationship in order to fund their honeymoon? This is actually disgusting,” one person wrote on Reddit, while another added, “This is so f**ked up and so out of touch with reality”.

“Wow, I see they are being consistent with begging for money and attention,” a third wrote, followed by someone else who said, “Pay for your own honeymoon, you spoilt entitled brats”.

“They seriously have no shame,” a different user replied, with another commenting, “Pathetic and cringe. Stop embarrassing yourselves”.

Meanwhile, others have defended Jacqui’s comments and argued that what she’s saying actually makes a lot of sense.

“I mean, to me it’s fairly obvious she’s saying, ‘If you’re going to throw money away on a bet about our relationship, you’ll definitely lose, you might as well give it to us instead’,” a fan pointed out.

“I think she is using sarcasm in response to the commenter that said he wished the relationship was on Sportsbet,” someone else shared, followed by another who remarked, “Y’all don’t know a joke when you see one”.
