The 37-year old forward and his agent, Pat Brisson, have confirmed that he is looking to have his new NHL home found before the NHL draft on June 27th.

While Toews won’t be able to sign a contract until free agency’s opening on July 1st, a verbal agreement is still set to be in place by Toews’ camp and one NHL organization.

His hometown team, the Winnipeg Jets.

And a surprise contender, the Colorado Avalanche.

These two teams made an early exit in this years NHL playoffs, and are in search for an extra boost this offseason.

While both teams are a bit cap strapped, Toews, who’s seeking a ‘prove it’ contract as he has yet to lace up the skates in quite some time, is in the ideal price range for these contending teams.
