The Montreal Canadiens have always been a team full of surprises, and this week, fans were treated to yet another intriguing development that has everyone talking.

Amid the buzz of training camp preparations and the excitement surrounding the new season, a familiar face has quietly reemerged in the headlines, sparking fresh speculation about what might be brewing behind closed doors in Brossard.

TVA Sports has just dropped a tantalizing scoop involving Canadiens GM Kent Hughes and executive Jeff Gorton, hinting at secret discussions that could see a respected veteran return to the organization—but not in the way fans might expect.

The details remain shrouded in mystery, but whispers from inside the locker room suggest that this potential reunion could have a major impact on the team’s culture and future direction.

David Savard, whose leadership and experience have made him a favorite among players and fans alike, is now at the center of these talks. But what exactly is being discussed?

And could this move mirror the surprising transition of another former Hab, Paul Byron, who found a new calling with the club?

With the season just around the corner, the stakes couldn’t be higher. What role could Savard play in Montreal’s next chapter? The answers may surprise you.

The TVA Sports network gave us an interesting little scoop over the past few hours, involving Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.

Despite his presence at the Quebec Remparts’ practice yesterday, don’t be surprised if we see David Savard show up in Brossard as the Montreal Canadiens’ 2025 training camp gets underway.

In an excellent article by Kevin Dubé, published on TVA Sports, Savard admitted that he is still in discussions with Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton about a possible return with the Habs.

We’re talking here about a return with the Habs in a coaching, support, or other type of role, of course-not as a defenseman.

It’s reminiscent of what happened with Paul Byron as well.

Here are two excerpts found in Dubé’s article:

“David Savard’s new mentorship project, notably with QMJHL teams including the Quebec Remparts, doesn’t mean he has shut the door on a position within the Montreal Canadiens’ organization. Quite the opposite.”

“I was with Gorts [Jeff Gorton] and Kent [Hughes] yesterday and we chatted a bit about all that.”

This is really interesting!

Once again at the start of the season, during the media availabilities at the Canadiens’ annual golf tournament, David Savard’s name was on just about everyone’s lips.

The players love David Savard, and there’s no doubt they would be extremely happy to see him return to the Habs in a new role.
