As the Montreal Canadiens gear up for another season filled with high hopes and intense competition, one young forward finds himself at the center of swirling speculation and growing uncertainty.

Joshua Roy, a rising talent with undeniable offensive flair, has once again experienced a sudden shift in his journey with the Canadiens—a move that has left fans and analysts alike wondering about his future within the organization.

Despite flashes of brilliance during the previous season, Roy’s path to securing a permanent spot on the roster seems to have hit a familiar roadblock, raising questions about what comes next for the promising prospect.

Behind the scenes, whispers of trade rumors have begun to surface, with Roy’s name reportedly catching the attention of several NHL general managers over the summer.

But the intrigue doesn’t stop there. As reports suggest, a pivotal meeting between Roy and Canadiens management could be on the horizon—one that might shape the trajectory of his career in unexpected ways.

With other young forwards climbing the ranks and Roy facing mounting pressure to prove his worth, the stage is set for a dramatic twist that could redefine his role in Montreal. What will happen next? The answers may surprise you.

For a second year in a row, Joshua Roy’s training camp with the Montreal Canadiens was cut rather abruptly with a demotion to Laval.

The young forward from Beauce once again missed his chance to prove to Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton that he belongs within the organization, but that doesn’t mean the Canadiens’ management doesn’t believe in his potential.

According to a well-known insider, Joshua Roy’s name came up during the summer in certain trade rumors.

On an episode of The Shaun Starr Show, Marco D’Amico revealed information he obtained: some NHL general managers showed interest in Roy, as reported by DansLesCoulisses.

Now that’s interesting.

But that’s not all!

Not only might he be available, but Joshua Roy and his camp are scheduled to meet with Kent Hughes and Jeff Gordon soon; he could even eventually request a trade himself.

Despite all his offensive talent, Joshua Roy is probably a victim of the Canadiens’ forward depth, and it seems several young players in the organization have passed him in the hierarchy.

We’re talking about Owen Beck, Florian Xhekaj, and Oliver Kapanen, who are still with the big club at the time of writing.

That said, Joshua Roy still showed his offensive potential in 2023-2024 with 9 points in 23 games with the Canadiens, but at the following training camp, he failed to seize his chance to earn a spot with the big club to start the 2024-2025 season.

It looks like history is repeating itself this year, and it will be interesting to see if he’ll be the first player called back up.
