The Montreal Canadiens’ rebuild has been full of surprises, but the latest episode of their behind-the-scenes documentary on Crave offers a glimpse at a moment that few fans could have imagined.

As the trade deadline approached, the tension behind closed doors reached new heights—not just with the negotiations between Kent Hughes and Barry Trotz, but with a secret meeting that could change the way we see the team’s future.

In a rare and candid exchange, Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes sat down with defenseman Kaiden Guhle to discuss a potential trade for a forward whose identity remains shrouded in mystery.

The episode teases viewers with hints and descriptions—an indefatigable monster, strong as a horse, smart and offensively gifted—but stops just short of revealing the name.

Was it a former teammate? A rising star? The secrecy only adds to the intrigue, leaving fans to speculate about who this rugged, point-producing forward might be.

While the trade ultimately never happened, the scene reveals just how involved Hughes is in shaping the Canadiens’ next chapter, and how much trust he places in his young leaders.

With so many unanswered questions, this episode promises to keep fans guessing—and coming back for more.

As we reported earlier, a brand-new episode of Season 2 of the series on the Montreal Canadiens’ rebuild is available on Crave.

And it’s a very interesting episode, because it deals in particular with what happened behind the scenes at the trade deadline.

It specifically talks about a trade negotiated between the Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators (between Kent Hughes and Barry Trotz), which ultimately was never completed.

That said, it also mentions another trade involving a forward.. A trade for which Kent Hughes asked Kaiden Guhle for advice.

A little later in the episode, we actually see the Canadiens’ general manager meeting with his defenseman, Kaiden Guhle, to ask him for information on a forward he was trying to acquire.

Perhaps a former teammate?

The name is censored, but it’s obvious that it sparks a lot of curiosity!

“Guhle mentions that it’s a very good player who is excellent on both sides of the ice.

He even calls him an indefatigable monster.

Strong as a horse, good offensively, smart and capable of making good plays, he was producing at nearly a point-per-game pace at the time of the conversation in question.

Standing about 5’11″/185 lbs according to Guhle’s description, he also described him as rugged.”

It’s another trade that never materialized, but it shows just how active Kent Hughes is on the trade market.
