Montreal is buzzing with excitement and speculation as one of their brightest young stars, Lane Hutson, continues to capture the hearts of Canadiens fans everywhere. Fresh off a remarkable rookie season and a Calder Trophy win, Hutson’s future has become one of the hottest topics in the hockey world. The city’s devotion to its rising defensive sensation has reached a fever pitch, and every word he says—and doesn’t say—now carries extra weight.
Earlier today, Hutson gave fans even more reason to talk when he appeared on BPM Sports for a candid interview. While the conversation touched on his passion for hockey, his memorable moments in Montreal, and his incredible year on the ice, one question stood out above the rest: what comes next for Lane Hutson and the Canadiens? Rumors about a long-term contract extension have been swirling, and Hutson’s subtle but heartfelt response has only fueled the fire.
As anticipation builds and speculation runs wild, the young defenseman’s future with the Canadiens looks brighter than ever. With the draft approaching and the offseason heating up, all eyes are on Montreal to see if a major deal will be struck. The next few weeks promise to be pivotal for both Hutson and the franchise.

The young Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson was interviewed earlier today on BPM Sports.
During the interview, they naturally talked about the Calder Trophy he won yesterday, his love for hockey, his love for Montreal, and his memorable rookie season in the NHL.. but the topic of his next contract also came up.
Following yesterday’s announcement, it’s no surprise that everyone is once again talking about the possibility of Lane Hutson signing a contract extension with the Habs as early as this summer.
An 8 Year Contract Extension for Lane Hutson This Summer With the Montreal Canadiens? He Was Asked the Question
I loved how subtly and creatively Max Lalonde asked him the question.
“Will my Lane Hutson jersey still be good for the next 8 years?” – Max Lalonde
“We’ll see.. But I love Montreal.” – Lane Hutson
It’s definitely a situation to watch, and while Hutson couldn’t say too much, his body language screamed that he wants to sign that 8-year deal in Montreal as soon as possible.
Let’s also remember that during yesterday’s press conference, he also sent a subtle message to Kent Hughes:
We’ll have our answer in the coming weeks.
At 21 years old, Hutson recorded 66 points in 82 games this season and has 68 points in 84 career NHL games (including 5 points in 5 playoff games).
