The name Lane Hutson is on everyone’s lips right now, both within the Montreal Canadiens organization and across the National Hockey League.

Now that he has easily won the 2025 Calder Trophy, awarded to the league’s top rookie, all eyes are on his next contract.

In an interview at noon yesterday following the announcement of his achievement, Hutson was asked numerous questions about his future in Montreal, and he dropped an important hint about his priorities moving forward.

While Hutson understandably couldn’t say too much about a contract extension, he still gave some clear signals-most notably that he loves Montreal and that it’s important to him to spend his career in a place where he feels good.

He also mentioned that his main priority going forward is simply to keep having fun and living his passion.

That really doesn’t sound like a player who’s going to push his agent to play hardball and squeeze out every last dollar at the negotiation table.

Lane Hutson isn’t hiding it very well-it’s clear he wants to sign an 8-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens as soon as possible

Here’s another quote that speaks volumes:

“When you do something you love and you get to do it, it’s not really work. It’s just me enjoying what I do and wanting to try to help the team any way I can. I just really enjoy it and really have fun doing it.”
