The hockey world is buzzing with speculation and debate as the name Sidney Crosby becomes increasingly linked to the Montreal Canadiens. What started as a bold suggestion on sports radio has quickly snowballed into one of the most talked-about “what if” scenarios of the season, sending shockwaves through fans and analysts alike. The mere idea of Crosby, a generational talent and the face of the Pittsburgh Penguins, donning the bleu, blanc, et rouge of Montreal has ignited passionate reactions from every corner of the hockey community.

As trade proposals grow ever more extravagant and opinions from experts and former players pour in, the conversation has become a fascinating blend of excitement, skepticism, and outright disbelief. For the Canadiens, the prospect of acquiring a player of Crosby’s caliber represents both a dream and a dilemma—one that raises questions about the team’s future direction and what price would be too high for such a move.

While the odds of this blockbuster trade actually coming to fruition remain slim, the ongoing speculation offers a captivating glimpse into the hopes, fears, and ambitions of two storied franchises and their fanbases. Could this fantasy ever become reality? The debate rages on.

The name Sidney Crosby is increasingly being linked to the Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes.

During the Four Nations Faceoff, BPM Sports host Martin Lemay caused quite a stir by stating he would be willing to trade Cole Caufield and two first-round picks to bring Sidney Crosby to the Montreal Canadiens.

As reported by the site DansLesCoulisses, Lemay revisited the topic on air, this time proposing a trade involving three first-round picks and prospect Michael Hage to his colleagues Martin Biron and Éric Bélanger.

Let’s just say the two former NHL players don’t share the same vision when it comes to the hypothetical arrival of No. 87 in Montreal.

Two Experts Weigh In on “Mock” Trade Involving Sidney Crosby and the Montreal Canadiens

Here’s Martin Biron’s response:

“Absolutely, I’d get in my car, head to Pittsburgh, go pick up Sidney, and hand him a bottle of champagne..

I’d probably give up four first-round picks!”
– Martin Biron

As for Bélanger, he’s not nearly as enthusiastic as his colleague and doesn’t see why the Canadiens would make such a move and mortgage their future.

“Not at all!”

– Éric Bélanger

But to be realistic, the chances of this happening are pretty much zero. According to Biron, the Penguins organization would want to find a team Sidney Crosby actually wants to play for, and if Kent Hughes made that kind of offer, he’d be “sent to the Moon” by Kyle Dubas.

It’s clear that Dubas would demand either already established Canadiens players or top-tier prospects for a deal with Kent Hughes to be considered.

And you, what’s your take on all the speculation surrounding Sidney Crosby and the Montreal Canadiens?

Do you believe in it?

And if so, what would you be willing to sacrifice to bring No. 87 to town?
