It’s that time of the year already – yep, The Block is right around the corner.

This year Scott Cam and the crew are heading to the heartland, Daylesford in Victoria to be more specific.

Tagging along with Scotty will be 10 fresh Blockheads ready to roll up their sleeves for the challenge that lies ahead.

Although there’s a few big changes this year.

For the first time ever on the show, the Blockheads will build houses from scratch that are exactly the same in layout and size with only the frames completed when they arrive in Daylesford.

Plus this year, all-nighters are outlawed, and the building site will be locked every night. This means time-management skills from contestants are a must or some rooms won’t be completed in time.

With that in mind let’s meet the 2025 cast…

Sonny and Alicia – Married couple, QLD

Sonny and Alicia – Married coupleSonny and Alicia are a married couple from the Gold Coast, Queensland. (Nine)
Sonny and Alicia are a charismatic couple who have been together for 14 years, married for 10. They have three kids, a daughter Aria, 12, and sons Boston, 11, and Koa, 8.

The couple were on the shortlist for the Phillip Island season of The Block and were overjoyed when they got the call to say they had made series 21.

“I was really upset last year that we just missed out, so when we got the call to say we were in it was an amazing feeling,” Alicia said.

EXPERIENCE

They have built their current family home, and at their previous home they renovated a granny flat.

Sonny says they are somewhere in the middle when it comes to renovating experience. “We are by no means epic renovators, but not completely green.”

Sonny, 44, plumber

A small business owner, Sonny has worked as a plumber for the past 25 years. He was born in Hobart but moved to Queensland and the Gold Coast with his family when he was three.

He is strong-minded, fair and reasonable and lives a very active lifestyle on the Gold Coast. He is a hard worker and father who loves swimming and playing touch football. He also doesn’t mind writing and will bring that to one of the challenges this year on The Block.

Alicia, 42, dental practice manager

With a big laugh and a beautiful nature, Alicia is set to be the mum on The Block, just like she is back home on the Gold Coast.

Not afraid to say what she thinks, she is straightforward and would rather resolve any conflict right there and then. “If something is bothering me I will say it,” she says.

She loves to go swimming with the family at the beautiful beaches on the Gold Coast.

TOGETHER

This couple are super strong, having been together for so long.

They may argue a bit but like Block favourites Tom and Sarah Jane, they get over it quickly. Both have a huge amount of respect for each other.

“Alicia’s strength is her people skills, her kindness to others and her loyalty,” Sonny said.

Alicia was just as complimentary about her husband.

“Sonny is extremely hard working, articulate, not afraid to show emotion. You always know what he is thinking.”

On the build, Alicia is likely to spend more time shopping while Sonny manages the site, but they’re not afraid to mix up the roles.

Robby and Mat – Best mates, SA

Robby and Mat – Best matesRobby and Mat are best mates who both work in the hair industry. (Nine)
Robby and Mat met 15 years ago in Adelaide when Mat cut Robby’s hair and they have been best friends ever since.

From the moment they walk into a room, you can’t help but notice Robby and Mat. It was Robby’s idea to apply for The Block while Mat was in Bali celebrating his 40th birthday.

“I was sitting at home and my partner Alyssa said myself and Mat would be great on The Block and here we are,” Rob said.

Mat added: “If someone had told me with a crystal ball the likelihood of going on The Block or my house burning down, I would have said our house burning down.”

EXPERIENCE

When it comes to renovating, of the five couples on The Block this year the boys probably have the least experience. In fact, Mat has never even watched an episode of The Block, much to Scott Cam’s bemusement. But that won’t deter them.

They have built businesses including hairdressing salons, so they know how to be project managers, and as we know, that is an invaluable skill on The Block.

Robby, 37, barber and business owner

Robby is a very successful business owner and barber, with four salons under the Attaboy name in Adelaide. He also owns a cafe there.

Growing up, Robby was a handy soccer player, playing for years in the National Premier League. He has a partner Alyssa and son Brooks, who will be nearly one when The Block goes to air.

“When I left to go on The Block, leaving him was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” Robby said.

Mat, 41, hairdresser and stylist, business owner

Growing up in Adelaide, Mat was one of Australia’s best figure skaters, which taught him determination and to take nothing for granted. He is a hard worker with a thick skin and knows what he wants.

Mat is known around the world for being a top hair stylist. He has a salon called MJ Hair and 32,300 followers on Instagram.

TOGETHER

Robby thinks many Aussies are going to relate to them. “I think a lot of people will connect with us really well,” he says.

“We are just two best mates, a hairdresser and a barber, gay and straight.”

Mat will be out shopping and styling on The Block while Robby manages the tradies.

One thing’s for sure: everyone will notice them when they walk in and it will be game on from day one.

Han and Can – Couple, WA

Han and Can – CoupleHan and Can met just over a year ago. (Nine)
With the nickname Handy-Can and Can-Do Can, this couple from Perth will go into The Block with guns firing.

Han and Can (Hannah and Candice) met just over a year ago online, and almost immediately after getting together realised they both wanted to do The Block.

“I have always wanted to do The Block but never had anyone to do it with,” Han said.

Can added: “I’m creative at heart and have always had a love of real estate, so I thought why not?”

EXPERIENCE

Through their families they have both been exposed to construction and real estate.

Han loves getting on the tools, thanks to working with her father for years, where she helped him renovate houses.

The couple are currently renovating their own home, a Californian bungalow, in Perth.

Han, 29, geologist

Han moved to Australia with her family from the United Kingdom when she was nine. Growing up, she did a number of sports including swimming, basketball, AFLW and ballroom dancing.

She now works as a mining professional and has spent time working all over Western Australia, including the Pilbara. She always wanted to learn a lot about rocks.

“I was fascinated by all of that, and when I came to Australia I didn’t realise geology was a thing,” she said. “It’s a great job, I love it.”

Can, 31, marketing and social media analyst

Growing up, Can was always creative, and has found herself working in marketing and social media in a number of industries including fashion, higher education and events. She has always loved property and real estate.

“Mum used to take me to art galleries and dad took me to motorbike tracks with the boys, and I used to take them to real estate open for inspections,”she said.

TOGETHER

Han and Can are a dynamic duo with a love of motorbikes, renovations, and their dogs. They have great respect and love for each other.

“Can has a massive heart,” Han said. “She will go out of her way to help people and I couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else.”

Can says: “Han is so driven and motivated. She sets goals and she achieves them, which I think is a great quality.”

On The Block, Han is going to take charge of the project management and Can more the creative direction, but neither are afraid to get on the tools.

Britt and Taz – Married couple, WA

Britt and Taz – Married coupleBritt and Taz are both police officers in WA. (Nine)
This married couple are based in Newman, a mining town 1,800km (12 hours drive) north of Perth, where it’s 40+ degrees every other day in summer.

Britt and Taz have two kids, Carter, 4, and Myla, 2, and are The Block’s second police couple, following on from Block All-Stars Alisa and Lysandra.

They work together at the Newman police station, which services the town, mining community and indigenous communities of Western Australia.

“I wanted to apply for The Block for years, but it was never the right timing,” Britt said.

“The timing now is right.”

EXPERIENCE

While they haven’t fully renovated a house yet, they’ve done plenty of projects on their home in Newman and before that Perth.

“I would say we could be classed as amateur renovators,” Taz said.

Britt added: “We have done lots of things ourselves like window bench seats, paving and landscaping, but never something like the scale of The Block.”

Britt, 30, police officer

An incredibly hard worker, Britt worked in car sales for five years before becoming a police officer. She also is a budding photographer, specialising in family portraits and maternity pictures.

Britt is a huge fan of The Block, having watched it for many years.

Taz, 30, police officer

Raised in Campbelltown in Sydney, Taz moved to Perth to play top-level football in the WAFL.

He is an aboriginal man from the Tharawal/Dharawal People, who wants to inspire indigenous kids around Australia that anything is possible.

Taz (real name Taran) loves the outdoors and lots of sports, and his biggest fear is subzero early-morning temperatures in Daylesford.

TOGETHER

The couple met in Perth nearly 10 years ago on Tinder and married three years ago. They are a hard-working team and no challenge is too much.

Their kids Carter and Myla are the centre of their universe and they are doing the show for them.

Their style on The Block is called Modern Organic Luxury. Think resort-style living.

Emma and Ben – Married high school sweethearts, VIC

Emma and Ben – Married high school sweetheartsEmma and Ben have applied for The Block seven times. (Nine)
Emma and Ben have applied for The Block seven times, and were over the moon when they finally made it.

They will be a triple threat at Daylesford, unflappable, hard-working and organised.

“We have applied so many times! We can’t wait to get to Daylesford and get started,” Emma said.

EXPERIENCE

They have the most renovation experience of all the contestants, having done two houses plus another new build.

“My aunty flipped houses her whole life, she is probably our inspiration,” Ben said.

They were 24 when they bought their first house and have been flipping houses and documenting it on their socials ever since.

Emma, 33, dance teacher
Emma and Ben – Married high school sweetheartsThe duo have the most reno experience out of all the Blockheads. (Nine)
Emma was a woodwork teacher before turning her attention to dance, her true love.

She is one of Australia’s best pole dancers, which has become a sport in recent times. She now teaches pole dancing and has an activewear business selling to the pole-dancing community.

“It’s such a great workout,” Emma says. “The students are anywhere between 13 and 70 and everyone comes together, it’s amazing.”

Ben, 32, engineer and aspiring firefighter

Before getting on The Block, Ben, who studied engineering, was accepted to be a firefighter in Melbourne, an appointment he has postponed to go on the show.

Ben has also done stand-up comedy, which might come handy in one of The Block‘s famous challenges this year.

TOGETHER

They’ve been married for three years but have known each other a lifetime. They met at the lockers at high school, had the same friendship until Year 12, and officially got together in 2011.

Ben thinks Emma with her beautiful nature will be a real asset on The Block.

“She is organised, has a great rapport with everyone, and can win people over by just being herself,” Ben said.

Emma thinks Ben’s methodical approach to his work will guide them to win a lot of rooms and challenges.

“Ben is a great forward planner and will organise our trades so well,” she said.

The couple are looking to start a family, and there might be more news on that front as The Block unfolds.

Emma and Ben (or Em as she will be known) plan to build a mid-century-themed home with a Daylesford country touch.
