The New York Mets have made some roster adjustments to their squad, led by star Juan Soto, just days into the 2025 MLB season. The 26-year-old left fielder played a key role in their opening series against the Houston Astros and Miami Marlins.
New York holds a 2-3 record after opening the regular season with a three-game series against the Astros, securing one win while suffering two losses. They then faced the Marlins, splitting the first two games of the series. Evaluating this start, the Mets have already begun taking action.
Soto, meanwhile, is in the first year of his 15-year, $765 million contract signed in December 2024. Expectations for his performance this season are high, which is why the New York franchise is adding depth to the roster.
New additions for Juan Soto’s Mets
The two players joining the Mets are first baseman Jon Singleton and infielder Niko Goodrum, who have signed minor league contracts. Both newcomers will report to Triple-A Syracuse, adding extra depth to the organization.

The addition of Singleton and Goodrum to the minor league system provides the Mets with extra roster options, which could prove valuable as the season progresses and challenges such as injuries or underperformance issues that have already begun to surface in the early days of the new campaign.
Challenging start for the Mets in the 2025 MLB season
The Mets have faced challenges both on the field and within their roster early in the 2025 season. On the injury front, pitcher Sean Manaea suffered a setback in his right oblique strain and isn’t expected to return until May. Meanwhile, New York will need to stabilize inconsistent performances to string together consecutive wins.
