The Montreal Canadiens have made a surprising move that’s set the hockey world abuzz, and it’s all centered around one of their most promising young defensemen.

As whispers of roster decisions and future stars circulate, fans are left wondering what’s really happening behind closed doors at the Bell Centre.

A major announcement has just been made regarding the team’s representation at an exclusive NHL event in Washington, and the choice has already sparked heated debate among insiders and supporters alike.

With the list of attendees now public, the absence of one name is fueling speculation and setting the stage for a dramatic showdown in Montreal’s youth ranks.

Could this be the start of a bold new era for the franchise, or is it a controversial gamble that will have fans talking for months to come? The story is far from over, and the full details promise to reveal much more about the Canadiens’ vision for the future.

A decision sparking debate because of young Ivan Demidov

We’re certainly happy for Reinbacher, who will indeed be a solid and proud representative for the Canadiens, but what about young Demidov?

Why was he overlooked?

Here’s the full list:

When you see the names included, you really have to wonder how Demidov could have been left out.

Among the invited players we clearly recognize are 2025 first-overall pick Matthew Schaefer, as well as forwards Ryan Leonard (WSH), Beckett Sennecke (ANA), Tij Iginla (UTA), and Gabriel Perreault (NYR).

Special mention also goes to the Quebec-born players Jordan Dumais (CBJ) and Frédéric Brunet (BOS).

David Reinbacher, age 20, is a right-shot defenseman standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 207 pounds. He was drafted 5th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2023 (1st round).

He collected 5 points in 10 games with the Laval Rocket last season in the AHL and will now aim to earn a spot in the NHL this year in Montreal.

Stay tuned!
