In a move that’s sending shockwaves through the hockey world, the Montreal Canadiens have just welcomed one of their most intriguing young prospects to the city. Yevgeni Volokhin, a towering goaltender with a reputation for poise and athleticism, has officially arrived in Montreal, marking a significant step in his journey toward the NHL.

As fans and analysts alike buzz with anticipation, the arrival of Volokhin is stirring plenty of excitement—not only for what it means for the Canadiens’ future in net, but also for the bold approach the organization is taking in developing its next generation of talent. With comparisons already being drawn to some of the league’s most successful late-round goaltender picks, Volokhin’s presence in Montreal is more than just a routine offseason development; it’s a glimpse into what could be a pivotal chapter for both the player and the franchise.

As he settles in and begins training alongside his new teammates, all eyes are on this promising young Russian, whose journey from his home country to the heart of Canadian hockey is only just beginning.

Another Montreal Canadiens prospect has just left his home country to arrive in town-and he’s a truly intriguing young talent.

Yevgeni Volokhin is a goaltender who was selected in the 5th round of the 2023 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens (144th overall), and he represents a potential home-run swing by the organization.

The New York Islanders found Ilya Sorokin with the 78th pick, and the New York Rangers landed Igor Shesterkin with the 118th pick, so the Canadiens are trying a similar gamble with Volokhin.

It definitely doesn’t guarantee success, but he’s certainly an exciting prospect to keep an eye on.

Some truly believe he could become the Canadiens’ number one goalie of the future.

That said, there’s a new development regarding young Volokhin.

This is excellent news for the relationship between the young goalie and the Canadiens.

“According to Hockey News Hub, via his agent, young goaltender Yevgeni Volokhin has arrived in town and is currently in Montreal to train.”

He’s training with the Habs organization, right inside the Canadiens’ facilities (possibly alongside Ivan Demidov).

This is all very positive!

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound goalie played his first full season in the KHL in 2024-25, posting an impressive .901 save percentage behind a very weak Sochi team (with a record of 4 wins, 17 losses, and 1 overtime loss).

It’s also worth noting that it’s extremely rare to see a 19-year-old goalie (he turned 20 in April) play that many games in the KHL.

He appears to be a special talent-and definitely a name to remember.
