The Montreal Canadiens are making headlines once again, and this time, it’s not just about the latest line changes. In a morning full of surprises, head coach Martin St-Louis shook up the roster, separating Ivan Demidov from Patrik Laine and Kirby Dach—a move that instantly set fans and analysts buzzing.

But the intrigue doesn’t stop at strategy. Today, the Canadiens unveiled updated player measurements, revealing a striking physical transformation for their star forward, Patrik Laine.

After spending the summer off the radar, Laine has quietly packed on ten pounds, sparking speculation about how this added size could impact his style of play.

With Zachary Bolduc now joining Laine and Dach on the second line, the chemistry and dynamics of the team are shifting in ways that no one saw coming.

Is Laine’s new physique a sign of a more aggressive approach on the ice? Could these changes be the secret ingredient the Habs need to power through the season?

And what other surprises might be lurking beneath the surface as the team gears up for another campaign? The answers remain just out of reach, but one thing is certain—the Canadiens are keeping everyone guessing.

We had quite a bit of action this morning with the Montreal Canadiens.

First, Martin St-Louis made significant line changes, as young Ivan Demidov was separated from Patrik Laine and Kirby Dach.

Laine and Dach now have a new winger on the second line, and that winger is none other than the new acquisition Zachary Bolduc.

But that’s not all.

The Montreal Canadiens also announce a physical change for Patrik Laine

Today, the Habs organization officially released the updated measurements for their players, and there are a few interesting changes.

Notably, Arber Xhekaj is now listed at 236 pounds, while Patrik Laine is now listed at 218 pounds.

The forward Laine had last been listed at 208 pounds.. which means he gained 10 pounds this summer!

Could a slightly bigger Patrik Laine play a more physical game this season?

That could be an interesting tool to add to his toolkit, and it would certainly be useful for the Habs’ second line-something to keep an eye on as the season begins.

Also note that while some sources list Patrik Laine at 6-foot-5, according to the Canadiens’ official measurements, he is in fact 6-foot-4.

Patrik Laine, 27 years old, recorded 33 points, including 20 goals, in 52 games last season (his first with the Montreal Canadiens).

He earns 8.7 million per year until July 1, 2026.
