A new wave of excitement is building in Montreal, and it’s centered around a name that’s quickly gaining traction among Canadiens fans—Florian Xhekaj. As the brother of the already popular Arber Xhekaj, Florian has quietly been making his case as a player to watch, and the buzz surrounding his potential NHL debut is growing louder by the day.

With speculation swirling and insiders dropping hints, the conversation has shifted from “if” to “when” we’ll see Florian don the iconic Canadiens sweater. Recent discussions among analysts and team insiders have only fueled anticipation, suggesting that his official arrival to the NHL could come sooner than many expected. The Canadiens’ management appears to be sending a strong message about their confidence in the young forward, and fans are eager to see how he might fit into a lineup that’s brimming with both established veterans and hungry young talent.

As training camp approaches and the roster battles intensify, all eyes will be on Florian Xhekaj and his quest to carve out a spot with the Habs. The stage is set for a compelling storyline—one that could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Montreal hockey.

I just came across an interesting article by Philippe Chênevert from the site HABSolumentFan, regarding Florian Xhekaj, who is, of course, the brother of Arber Xhekaj.

It discusses the possibility of seeing Florian Xhekaj with the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League as early as the start of next season.

Florian Xhekaj with the Canadiens as early as the start of next season?

It was also a topic discussed on BPM Sports:

“Will we have a bit more grit?

Did we pick up a guy for the 4th line too?

Is he strong enough to play on the 4th?

People talk about his speed.

Is he fast enough? Mature enough? Ready?

On the 4th line next year, you still have Jake Evans and Emil Heineman.

Where else would you play Heineman?

I think he’ll be on the 4th [will play the other side]. There are also young guys coming up.

You’ve got Owen Beck, Oliver Kapanen.. there’s a bunch pushing through!”

All of this reminded me of a major piece of news that flew a bit under the radar during the Canadiens’ playoff run.

The Montreal Canadiens nearly called up Florian Xhekaj against the Washington Capitals

That information comes from Jean-Charles Lajoie, who also had the scoop about Arber Xhekaj’s return to the lineup a bit earlier.

“There were intense internal discussions about whether or not to call up Florian Xhekaj.”

– Jean-Charles Lajoie

That says a lot.

As the TFP expert pointed out yesterday, it shows one thing.

The Canadiens have made their intentions clear about Florian Xhekaj’s official arrival in Martin St. Louis’ lineup, and don’t be surprised if the younger Xhekaj brother is in the Habs’ lineup for opening night this fall.

Of course, it will all depend on his training camp, but he’s likely to impress once again, and the Canadiens clearly intend to use him soon.

The Habs’ intentions are clear.
