As the Montreal Canadiens face a pivotal offseason filled with uncertainty, a new and surprising storyline has emerged—one that could redefine the team’s future.

In the wake of troubling injury news surrounding Kirby Dach, the Canadiens’ management is under mounting pressure to fill a critical gap at center.

Whispers around the league have quickly turned into open speculation, as credible sources now confirm that Montreal is keeping a very close eye on one of the most intriguing young centers in the NHL: Mason McTavish.

But why is McTavish suddenly at the center of so much attention? And what makes him such an ideal fit for a Canadiens squad hungry for stability and star power down the middle?

Behind closed doors, discussions are heating up, and the possibility of a blockbuster move is growing by the day. As Anaheim’s roster evolves and their priorities shift, could a window be opening for Montreal to make a bold play for a player who might just be the missing piece in their rebuild?

The answers are far from simple, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. What happens next could alter the course of the Canadiens’ season—and perhaps their long-term destiny. The full story is just beginning to unfold.

We finally have a more concrete development involving center Mason McTavish and the Montreal Canadiens.

It seems obvious that, following the latest bad news announced involving Kirby Dach, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will seriously have to get back to work in order to find a solid second-line center.

Well, precisely on that topic, the excellent Anthony Di Marco has just reported an interesting development.

It’s confirmed: the Montreal Canadiens are closely monitoring the Mason McTavish situation

I love it!

It’s great to learn that the Habs are officially keeping an eye on this situation.

Anthony Di Marco: “The Canadiens are a club that I’d reckon would be keeping close tabs on McTavish’s availability”

That confirms exactly what we were thinking.

McTavish would be such an incredible addition for the Habs, and it could possibly be the final major piece to complete the Habs’ rebuild.

Mason McTavish, age 22, is a complete center, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 220 pounds, who was the 3rd overall pick by the Anaheim Ducks in 2021 (first round).

He has accumulated 140 points in 229 career NHL games, including 60 goals, and he recorded 52 points in 76 games in 2024-2025, on a third line and with little power-play time.

McTavish would literally be ideal as a second-line center for the Montreal Canadiens.

“The Canadiens are reportedly closely monitoring Mason McTavish’s availability!”

If he does become available, which could very well happen soon, expect the Montreal Canadiens to call quickly.

With players like Leo Carlsson, Beckett Sennecke, Roger McQueen, Mikael Granlund and others on Anaheim’s side, McTavish most likely won’t have the role he deserves over there.
