Tensions are running high as the playoff series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals takes on a new layer of drama—this time, off the ice. In the wake of some pointed comments from Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin about the atmosphere at Montreal’s iconic Bell Centre, the Canadiens’ organization has responded in style, igniting a playful yet pointed exchange that has captured the attention of fans and media alike.
Ovechkin’s remarks, which downplayed the electric energy of the Montreal crowd and drew comparisons to Washington’s own arena, stood in stark contrast to the praise heaped on Bell Centre by his teammates. The Canadiens’ witty retort, delivered via social media, quickly made waves and showcased the team’s quick thinking and sense of humor.
As anticipation builds for the next game and the rivalry intensifies, all eyes are on both teams—not just for their performance on the ice, but for the ongoing war of words that’s adding even more excitement to an already thrilling playoff battle.

As we reported a few days ago, Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin made some interesting comments about the crowd in Montreal.
When asked about it, Ovechkin didn’t seem very impressed by the atmosphere at the Bell Centre and in Montreal, mentioning that it was either better or similar in Washington.
In short, it was a special kind of answer, especially considering several Capitals players had just praised the absolutely incredible and electric atmosphere in Montreal.
Ovechkin, likely playing the veteran card, was not impressed at all.
The Montreal Canadiens respond to Alex Ovechkin’s comments
It went mostly unnoticed because there have been so many stories to cover in the past few hours, but the Montreal Canadiens organization did in fact post a short message, no doubt aimed at Alex Ovechkin.
“We can confirm, it’s not the same as Washington.”
– Montreal Canadiens
A well-played little jab!
Many journalists also shared the post, mentioning that the Canadiens organization is in top form for posting such clever little messages.
No, it’s not the same in Washington.
All in all, I really liked it!
Now let’s hope we can get another game back in Montreal, and that Martin St-Louis’ squad finds a way to win Game 5 tomorrow night, live from Capital One Arena in Washington.
It’s shaping up to be exciting!
I can’t wait to see, after going back to Washington following two games at the Bell Centre, if Ovechkin will still think “it’s the same.”
