As you know, Joshua Roy has just been called up by the Montreal Canadiens from the Laval Rocket. Well, it turns out that this call-up could be much more significant than expected for the Quebec forward.
According to a source close to the Canadiens, as well as journalist Jeremy Filosa, rumors are circulating that the organization is no longer fully convinced about keeping Joshua Roy long-term.
In fact, the Habs’ management is reportedly not convinced that Roy can become an NHL player.
Wow.
So, don’t be surprised if he is included in a trade this summer, unless he has an incredible run in Montreal over the next few days and weeks.
Last night against the Vancouver Canucks, he didn’t register any points, had an even plus-minus rating, and recorded one shot on goal in just under 14 minutes of ice time.
An Uncertain Future for Joshua Roy with the Montreal Canadiens
Check out Filosa’s post on the matter.
“This call-up for Joshua Roy is very important, both for the player and for the Canadiens.
There are rumors that the Habs are not convinced their young prospect can become an NHL player.
Roy cannot afford to miss this opportunity. A strong offensive contribution could secure him a spot on the team next season. It could also help the team push for a playoff spot.
He will be under close watch in the coming weeks. Hopefully, he gets a real chance, at least 10 games, with the same linemates.”
Jeremy Filosa, who adds that Roy cannot afford to miss this opportunity.
There’s also this passage to note:
“A poor performance could convince the team that he is a player they can sacrifice in a trade this summer.”
Jeremy Filosa, still on the topic of Roy
So, this will be something to watch closely.
At 21 years old, Joshua Roy has recorded 35 points in 46 games this season with the Laval Rocket, including 20 goals. He has added 0 points in 5 games with the Montreal Canadiens (9 points in 28 career games in the NHL).
