We have a new development in the Ivan Demidov situation. Moments ago, SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg announced that not only will Demidov be scratched for his team’s next game, but the Montreal Canadiens’ top prospect could also be left out for the entirety of the KHL playoffs.

Wow.

So we can seriously ask ourselves if Demidov has already played his last game with SKA.

“Ivan Demidov will be scratched for SKA’s next game, and head coach Roman Rotenberg hinted that he could remain out for the playoffs.

Demidov is SKA’s top goal scorer.”

– Andrew Zadarnowski

But that’s not all:

“Demidov’s KHL contract expires on May 31, 2025.

Technically, Demidov can buy out his contract and leave earlier.

The last regular-season game will take place on March 22, followed by the playoffs.

SKA is not expected to make it past the first round, given its historically bad season.”

I know his contract technically ends on May 31, but reading this, knowing that SKA seems to have moved on from Demidov and doesn’t even want to play him anymore, gives me hope.

Could Ivan Demidov come to finish the season with the Montreal Canadiens?

In light of these recent developments, I don’t want to say it’s likely, but it’s definitely possible!

Imagine how huge it would be for the Montreal Canadiens to have a talent like Demidov for the remainder of the season and the playoffs.

We shouldn’t get too carried away, it remains a long shot, but it really seems within the realm of possibility, especially since Elliotte Friedman recently mentioned that Kent Hughes is currently working hard to bring Demidov to Montreal to finish this season.

To be continued.
