This is the kind of story that says a lot about forward Connor McDavid. It is extremely rare for a regular player to receive such an offer from his team and head coach, but McDavid is obviously not a regular player.

Due to the fact that McDavid has not had any rest in recent days, unlike most players in the National Hockey League, and because he played a very high-intensity final just a few hours ago, his team made him a proposal.

The Oilers even strongly suggested that McDavid take a game off and not play today to get some rest and heal (at least) a few minor injuries, but thinking he would accept that is underestimating number 97.

Connor McDavid had no interest in taking a game off today

See what journalist Adam Kimelman reports:

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that Connor McDavid would play today against the Flyers.

“Sometimes, you worry that the player hasn’t had a break, all these other players had a break.

But with Connor, I don’t think I could force him, I don’t think I could keep him off the ice.”

He then explains that the Oilers were 100% comfortable with the idea of giving McDavid a day off-in fact, that’s probably what they would have preferred, but Connor had absolutely no interest in it.

He was determined to play today.

That says a lot about him.

The game took place earlier today, and McDavid played nearly 20 minutes in his team’s loss to the Philadelphia Flyers and John Tortorella.

Speaking of players returning from the Four Nations Faceoff, let’s remember that in the case of Brady Tkachuk, he will not be in the lineup tonight against the Montreal Canadiens.

A report from the Sportsnet insider.

“We’ve learned that Brady Tkachuk will not play tonight for Ottawa.

The good news: The Senators are not concerned about the severity of the situation, but they will monitor his progress day by day.”
