The name Kirby Dach is generating less and less excitement among Montreal Canadiens fans, unfortunately.

We are far from the “era” when some believed that Dach could potentially be the Canadiens’ future number-one center, ahead of Nick Suzuki.

Many fans and experts are ready to throw in the towel on Dach after yet another major injury suffered by the Canadiens forward and another disappointing season. But what does Kent Hughes think?

During his post-trade deadline press conference, he addressed the topic with honesty.

Kent Hughes speaks out about Kirby Dach’s future in Montreal

Let’s just say the GM was not very convincing about his long-term plans for Dach.

“We’ll see how Kirby heals and how that impacts his game in the future. Of course, it’s going to be an unknown variable.”

– Kent Hughes

Obviously, he wasn’t going to say that he wants nothing more to do with Dach, but based on his responses, his body language, and the rumors that Hughes seriously tried to acquire center Dylan Cozens..

It’s clear that management is looking at other options.

This will likely be resolved more in the summer, but don’t be surprised if Kirby Dach is no longer the Canadiens’ second-line center next fall.

Dach, 24 years old, signed at $3.37 million per year until 2026, finished his 2024-2025 season with 22 points in 57 games and a minus-29 rating.
