After the players, it was Martin St-Louis’ turn to comment on the decisions made by Kent Hughes on the NHL trade deadline day.

While Hughes didn’t make any moves, he still made some major decisions, notably refusing to trade Joel Armia..

And also refusing to trade David Savard..

This sent a strong message to the team and the coaching staff for the remainder of the season, mentioned in his press conference that he had to negotiate hard with Martin St-Louis, clearly because St-Louis didn’t want his boss to trade regular players from the team.

Martin St-Louis comments on Kent Hughes’ trade market decisions

Now that his wish has been granted and Kent Hughes did not act as a seller at the deadline, here’s what St-Louis had to say on the subject:

“Martin St-Louis of the Montreal Canadiens says he is happy that David Savard is still with the team.

MSL states that the veteran players on the Habs are also quality human beings, which is beneficial for the young core.”

It’s easy to understand what his arguments were when speaking to Kent Hughes, persuading him not to trade players like Savard.
