The Montreal Canadiens have invested so much in the draft in recent years that some late-round picks could turn out to be surprises.

Tyler Thorpe, selected in the 5th round of the last draft, is a perfect example.

For the past few weeks, he has been turning heads.

His skating is excellent for a 6 foot 4 player, and several experts, including Grant McCagg, believe he has enough pace to play in the NHL one day.

Currently playing in the WHL, he is showing remarkable progress.

He has already surpassed his offensive production from last season and displays essential qualities for a power forward: he is effective around the net, uses his physicality, and plays responsibly on defense.

With this development, we could see him with the Laval Rocket sooner than expected.

He also surprised everyone at the last training camp despite being a 5th-round pick.

Honestly, I think he’s a player to keep an eye on. He could establish himself as an interesting player at the professional level.
