Hours after the NHL trade deadline, numerous pieces of information are leaking about what happened and what could have happened.
The person who is probably the best-connected insider in the entire National Hockey League, Elliotte Friedman, spilled the beans last night and made an interesting statement involving Mikko Rantanen and the Montreal Canadiens.
A Canadiens Offer for Mikko Rantanen?
Friedman, who is obviously not a journalist from Montreal and owes nothing to Montreal, mentioned “he wouldn’t be surprised if the Habs tested the waters for Mikko Rantanen.”
You read that right. Wow.
A few weeks ago, his colleague Eric Engels from Sportsnet mentioned that the Canadiens had (unsurprisingly) a huge interest in Mikko Rantanen.
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, therefore, seem to have tried something in this case.
For Friedman to make a statement like this and name names, there has to be something here.
