Montreal Canadiens fans unfortunately know referee Chris Lee all too well. There are all kinds of theories, backed by numbers, that seem to indicate the Habs have always had a very hard time winning hockey games when Chris Lee is one of the officials in charge.

Let’s just say Chris Lee has made his fair share of highly questionable calls against the Montreal Canadiens over the past few years.

Anyway, good news!

The NHL decides to leave Chris Lee out of the playoffs: good news, according to many Montreal Canadiens fans

See the post in question from Renaud Lavoie.

Everything pointed to Chris Lee being part of the playoffs, as he always is, but the league has clearly changed its mind when it comes to the 2025 postseason.

So it will officially be without Chris Lee that Martin St-Louis’ squad will face the Washington Capitals.

A history between Chris Lee and the Montreal Canadiens

Let’s recall the rather telling statistics that were compiled by a fan on social media.

There are already concrete stats indicating that the Montreal Canadiens are often unlucky when Chris Lee is the NHL-appointed referee for the game.

Many even openly question why Chris Lee is still allowed to work Habs games at all.

Even Renaud Lavoie pointed it out during a game in March, imagine that!

“The penalty on David Savard wasn’t one. Guess who the referee was?”

– Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports

He was referring to Chris Lee.

Anyway, he won’t be officiating in the playoffs, so that’s definitely worth noting.
