Playoff hockey has a way of bringing out the most passionate, and sometimes the most creative, sides of fans and communities. As teams battle fiercely on the ice, rivalries intensify and emotions run high, spilling out from the arenas and into the very heart of the cities they represent. Few players have managed to stir the pot quite like Tom Wilson, whose reputation precedes him wherever he goes.

This year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs have once again put Wilson in the spotlight—not just for his physical style of play, but for the way he seems to ignite strong feelings in opposing fanbases. In every city the Capitals visit, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation and, occasionally, a touch of animosity. It’s a testament to Wilson’s impact that his presence alone can inspire such strong reactions, not only on the ice but also in the local culture.

As the Capitals and Hurricanes face off in a heated postseason series, the rivalry has taken on a life of its own. The latest development serves as a vivid reminder of just how deeply hockey fever can grip a community—and how one player can become a symbol of playoff intensity and controversy.

No, it’s not just Montreal Canadiens fans who haven’t exactly appreciated Tom Wilson during the playoffs.

For those who aren’t following as closely, it’s currently the same situation for Carolina Hurricanes fans, who are now facing Wilson and the Capitals in the second round of the 2025 playoffs.

The Hurricanes and their fans hate Wilson, and we got a pretty direct and tangible proof of that, as a rather strange ban was announced in Carolina (involving the rugged Capitals forward).

Tom Wilson is banned from a movie theater in Carolina and denied entry

You should know that the owner of this theater is a huge hockey fan, and it seems he didn’t particularly appreciate Wilson’s attitude toward “his” Hurricanes.

Whether it’s because of his dangerous hits:

Or because of his “dives” spotted by fans, Wilson continues to irritate his opponents.

“The famous Rialto Theater in Raleigh is making its stance crystal clear, having decided to ban Wilson from all showings, even taking the time to display it in big letters on their main sign outside the entrance.”

That says a lot!

It also proves that Habs fans were probably right, they’re not the only ones who aren’t exactly fond of him.

That said, we have to admit this kind of move perfectly captures the playoff fever spirit!

Marquee currently reads: “All are welcome except Tom Wilson.”
