The Block viewers have been left fuming at Channel 9 and the show’s producers after tilers on the show made a major mistake, costing Houses 3 and 4 massively. This week, the teams have been working on their first room, a bathroom, and with only a couple of days to go until the room reveals, many of them are crawling to the finish line.

Britt and Taz, and Sonny and Alicia were left devastated on Wednesday night after discovering that their tilers had used D2, a type of glue that dries too slowly on waterproofing for the tight deadlines of the show and can cause tiles to dislodge due to trapped moisture. Unfortunately, by the time site manager Adrian noticed the error, it was too late.

This meant that every single tile in House 3 needed to be removed, and House 4 also needed to remove tiles where the non-compliant glue was used.

Foreman Dan noticed the glue in Sonny and Alicia’s house before Aidan’s discovery, but was told it was only being used on the plaster, so he didn’t warn them against it.

The Block viewers were left fuming over this mistake, with one person writing on Facebook, “Well, it looks like [Foreman] Dan and The Block failed here, as they should have told everyone about this up front and had it in the tilers’ induction.”

“Dan knew in the morning and let them go all day before they were told it’s the wrong product!” another angry viewer wrote. “Happens every year. The Block’s fault.”

“Very heavily recycled storyline, unfortunately,” a third agreed.

“Site supervisors all knew what they were doing!” someone else wrote. “Wrecking the [couples’ chances] on the first week for drama! Could have spoken up way earlier!”

Many others questioned why this never came up during the induction for all the tradies.

“Sack the guys who are supervising, fancy letting them get that far and then realising it was the wrong adhesive!” one viewer wrote. “Not professional at all.”

“This is just so wrong on so many levels for the tiler and the contestants, but they obviously need drama on the show, so [didn’t] tell the tradies what they can and can’t use and crucify the contestants’ chances of finishing and getting a win,” another said. “If this is the road the show is going down, I’m losing interest fast.”

“This is 1000000000% on the tilers,” someone else added. “The tiler should know the details of the products that they use, and this includes the drying time required for the tile type (porcelain/ceramic) before the grout is applied.

“They basically have three days to tile and grout, so they are completely in the wrong if they choose to use glue that requires a seven day drying time. Aiden shouldn’t have to tell them this, their experience/qualifications should dictate this!”

Others described it as “devastating” and “so unfair” to the contestants, adding that the products shouldn’t have been on site at all.
