One Farmer Wants A Wife hopeful has gained a lot of sympathy online after being rejected for a kiss by Farmer Jack.

There’s nothing more embarrassing than being rejected for a kiss while on a date, right? Well, what about if it was on national TV?

This is exactly what happened to Hayley, who is currently vying for Farmer Jack’s attention on Farmer Wants A Wife. Hayley grew up in Devonport, not far from Jack’s farm in Sheffield, and even went to the same school as him when they were younger, making them potentially a great match.

However, Jack has expressed concerns that the farm “might just be a stop along the way” as she now lives in Queensland. Meanwhile, she says that he has the traits that she seeks in a partner.

Speaking to the camera, Jack foreshadowed what was to come, saying, “Hayley and I, we are comfortable around each other, but we probably need to explore further whether there’s a good chemistry there and whether there’s a romantic connection. I would need to see a spark to consider a kiss tonight.”

Back at the farm, the other three ladies hypothesised whether Jack and Hayley would kiss, with everyone agreeing they would.

During the date, Hayley asked Jack whether or not he saw her as someone he could be with, and after a very awkward pause (as his mouth was full of cheese), he responded, “I think that you exhibit a lot of qualities that are very admirable.”

Speaking to the camera, he said, “I’m not here to lead anyone on. Hayley and my date was thoroughly enjoyable, we certainly have a good time and lots of laughs. But she doesn’t have a solid plan [in life], perhaps she’s someone who’s still finding herself.”

It was then that Hayley thanked him for the date and went in for the kiss, only to have Jack turn and have a sip of his beer instead, leading her to kiss his cheek instead.

It was clear that she felt quite awkward about it, because she fell into a fit of giggles, while he said, “Well, that was nice.”

She spoke to the cameras, saying, “If he wants to kiss me, he will. I’m OK for it not to be tonight, because, you know, it could be another time.”

Many Farmer Wants A Wife viewers were left gobsmacked by the awkward moment, with one person writing online, “I could have burst into flame from the sheer embarrassment of watching this, and almost wished I had.”

“That was seriously awkward lol,” another agreed.

“I got major secondhand embarrassment watching this moment,” a third added, with someone else replying, “She handled it well.”

“She handled that SO well though!” another said. “Likewise with the question she asked just prior to that… kudos to Hayley.”

“He needs to kindly send her home, he’s not into her,” someone else wrote.

“I would have left there and then, just so rude of him,” another viewer said.

“That was NOT NICE!” one particularly outraged viewer added.

“OMG I can’t deal with that, soooo cringe,” yet another wrote.

One person described it as “the most awkward moment I have every watched on TV”.

Others defended him, with one person saying, “He just doesn’t kiss everyone.”

“I think he did the right thing,” another agreed. “If he’s not into her, better to dodge the kiss. Good on him! There’s too many of them kissing anything that moves.”
