Channel 10 newsreader Sharyn Ghidella has shocked her fans with her bizarre coffee order.

The 58-year-old, who presents Channel 10’s 5pm Queensland bulletin after being sacked from 7News last year, has confessed that she adds apple juice to her morning cuppa.

Explaining that she did not start drinking coffee until four years ago, the veteran journo said she came up with her quirky order so she could ‘stay awake’.

‘I was quite the enigma during my time on breakfast TV,’ she told the Courier Mail.

‘People often couldn’t work me out. I was one of the few who survived starting work at 3 am without a caffeine hit.

‘I really did need something to keep me awake, so I came up with my own crazy brew that no one else likes or understands.’

‘I don’t claim to understand it either, but it does give me a boost,’ she added.

The Queensland-based news presenter was sacked from 7News in July 2024 after 17 years with the network amid a string of media job cuts.

Weeks later, Sharyn announced her prized new gig at Channel 10.

Her move to the network will also bring the 10 News First show back to its Brisbane studios after years of it being read from Sydney.

Sharyn described her new job as a ‘full-circle moment’ as she returns to Network 10 after beginning her metro news career with the channel back in 1990.

‘I wonder if my security tag still works,’ she joked in a video announcing the news.

‘Returning to 10 News First feels like coming home,’ the veteran broadcaster added in a statement.

‘Network 10 gave me my first big break in the early 90s, and to be back here, delivering a local news service for Queenslanders, is beyond exciting.’

In a red carpet appearance at last month’s Logies, the news anchor confirmed she was ‘happy’ about her new role, telling journalists that her job at her old network was ‘wonderful’.

Sharyn grew up in the North Queensland town of Babinda and got a Bachelor of Business Communications in Brisbane, before kicking off a career in journalism.

She was recruited by Brisbane’s Channel 10 newsroom at the age of 24 as an on-the-road reporter and update presenter.

Sharyn moved to Sydney’s Nine Network in 1992 and became a regular newsreader on the Today Show, before moving to the Seven Network in 2007.

She confirmed the news of her job loss in a fiery Facebook post, revealing how she learnt of her role being cut while at the hair salon.
