The Block’s Han and Can left everyone on-site confused when they fired their builder despite winning last week.

The Block’s Han and Can shocked the other teams and Foreman Dan on Monday night when they decided to sack their builder, Ben, despite winning last week and earning themselves a perfect 10 from judge Darren Palmer. But the worst part about it was the fact that Han took her microphone off to do it – a big no-no on The Block.
Han refused to accept that firing Ben was a loss, insisting he wasn’t the one project managing the site, she was, and he only stepped up when she was doing challenges that took her away. She also denied the fact that she was plotting to fire Ben, despite being caught on camera talking to her new builder Shan, about how bad Ben was.
Shan, a local tradie, offers more manpower than Ben and is cheaper, which is why Han claims he was fired.
Ben told the cameras that he felt like he was being phased out last week when he was told he could leave early, but added that he still felt “blindsided” when Han called him (without her microphone) to fire him.
Had she told him last week, he wouldn’t have had to return to the site this week to pick up all his gear.

When approached about firing Ben on the sly without her microphone on, Han doubled down, claiming she’d been sick in her caravan and that’s the reason she took her pack off.
“I didn’t make a tricky phone call,” she claimed. “He might be coming back. We just don’t have enough work for him this week.”
Can, meanwhile, told Han not to take her microphone off again so that there’s no doubt about her actions, which left her annoyed, telling everyone she was “p***ed off”.
“You are trying to frame me for being dodgy when I am literally just trying to manage our budget,” she yelled.
Despite claiming just moments earlier that she hadn’t fired him, she added, “Other teams have fired people and are they getting bailed up?”

The other teams and Foreman Dan were left confused by the move, with Sonny telling the cameras, “You’ve got a 10 and you sack your builder. That’s got to be a first.”
“Each to their own, I guess. But if I was getting a 10, I wouldn’t be sacking my builder.”
Ben, meanwhile, told the cameras, “It’s bittersweet. I will miss being here because I like The Block but to be honest House 2 has taken its toll on me. It might have been different if I was on a different house. I might have to go and see if House 1 need another chippie.”
When Foreman Dan questioned Ben’s departure, he said, “The girls have said they will stick with Shan’s crew because they’ve got three and I have only got one. And I am too expensive and their budget has been blown out too many times.”
Dan was shocked, saying, “Normally you’d only get rid of a builder because they are not doing the right things.”
Dan was seriously unimpressed with the way the girls handled things, and it cost them in the end. Photo: Nine
Ben’s loss was felt soon after, when Dan discovered a major issue in Han and Can’s kitchen, which Ben would have caught, because the girls failed to give Shan all the key information.
“That’s a big mistake by the girls. It’s unfortunate because Ben would have picked this up straight away,” Dan said.
The girls’ solution is shut down by Dan, who says they will need to spend big on a new steel frame, costing them both time and money that would have been saved if Ben was still there…
Fans slam Han and Can for firing their builder
Han became upset when questioned about it again, walking off during her interview with producers. Photo: Nine
Fans were shocked by Han and Can’s firing of Ben, with one viewer writing on Reddit, “Getting rid of Ben when he is delivering what you want and you’re not in the metro area is insanity. I can understand why Han didn’t want that conversation to be on mic, even if there was good cause to fire him (not saying she didn’t do wrong, she absolutely did, but I can understand why you’d want that to be confidential), but firing your builder for costs is the wrong way to start.
“You start by having a conversation about costs and what can be done to bring them down, and what in turn that means you can’t do.”
“Ben is probably the only reason things have been running well and the minute they ‘let him go’ [they have] problems,” another said. “Same thing with the microphone issue. As soon as Han is called out she chucks a little tantrum and says she ‘can’t handle it’.”
“Why be sneaky and then cry?” a third questioned, while others said she was “rude” and not being accountable for her own actions.
“The thing I’ve really noticed is that every time something bad happens they claim they didn’t know it was the wrong thing and throw a rather meaningless apology out,” another said. “They definitely follow the ‘ask for forgiveness’ later approach.”
“Stop making the girls out to be bad people!” one person hit back, defending the girls. “They can’t afford to have him and they are drilled about sticking to the budget every week and they are doing what they need to do to stay on track… The producers need to stop trying to make a drama! Grow up! Every year the producers seem to circle out one couple and make them out to be bad people.”
Another added that the quality of the building work in the first few weeks wasn’t that great and they lost marks for several mistakes, “It doesn’t look like Ben’s work was very good, and Han and him were managing the site and she was super stressed and wigging out all the time…I’m just speculating here but maybe Han took off her mic to fire Ben to not shit can his business on national TV and why they made up the budget thing so it didn’t reflect back poorly on his work and f**k up his business.”
