The Montreal Canadiens’ power-play could be on the verge of a dramatic transformation—and it all starts with a few cryptic words from head coach Martin St-Louis.

In a rare and candid session with the media, St-Louis dropped hints about shaking up the team’s most crucial offensive weapon.

With new faces like Noah Dobson joining the fold and young talents waiting for their chance, the possibilities are suddenly wide open. Could we see two defensemen anchoring the top unit, perhaps at the expense of big names like Cole Caufield or Patrik Laine?

The coach’s answer was as intriguing as it was mysterious: “Anything is possible.” As the roster grows deeper and competition heats up, St-Louis faces some tough choices that could redefine the Canadiens’ attack for the coming season.

What will these changes mean for the team’s stars, and how will the new arrivals fit in? One thing is certain—the fans are in for a surprise, and the stakes have never been higher.

After Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, it was head coach Martin St-Louis’s turn to appear in front of the media to answer questions.

He was notably questioned about the makeup of his power-play lines and pairings, and he gave a very interesting answer.

Martin St-Louis hints that he could use two defensemen on his top power-play unit

You read that right.

When asked about it earlier today, St-Louis confirmed that it is indeed an option, notably to make room for new acquisition Noah Dobson.

Is Martin St-Louis open to the idea of playing two defensemen on his first power-play unit?

“Anything is possible,” said the coach.

“We’ll have some great options.”

So don’t be surprised if Lane Hutson AND Noah Dobson are on the top power-play unit, which could come at the expense of a Cole Caufield or a Patrik Laine eventually.

The name Mike Matheson was even mentioned – imagine that!

Clearly, some tough choices will have to be made.

“Everything is possible. […] We’ll have some great options.

We manage day by day, we have to manage the minutes and the role they will play.”

“We brought in a few young players [like Zachary Bolduc], not to mention Dobson who already has a solid résumé. We have to find a way to integrate these guys.”
