The anticipation among hockey fans was palpable as rumors swirled about a possible appearance by Sidney Crosby at the Memorial Cup in Rimouski. The legendary Pittsburgh Penguins captain, revered as one of the greatest players of his generation, has always drawn attention wherever he goes—especially in places where his legacy began.

Over the past week, whispers of Crosby making a triumphant return to Rimouski, the city where he first captured the hearts of hockey enthusiasts as a junior star, ignited excitement not only among local fans but also across the entire hockey community.

Speculation reached a fever pitch as the Rimouski Océanic organization worked tirelessly behind the scenes, hoping to secure a visit from their most celebrated alumnus during what many consider the most significant week in the club’s history.

Crosby’s presence would have been a monumental moment, adding to the prestige and emotional resonance of the Memorial Cup tournament. However, as anticipation grew, so did the uncertainty surrounding his availability, with fans and media alike eagerly awaiting official word from his camp. Now, with confirmation from his agent, the speculation has finally come to an end, bringing both disappointment and understanding to those who had hoped for a homecoming.

Sidney Crosby’s agent has made an announcement regarding the rumor circulating about the Penguins’ number 87 forward.

Unfortunately, everything indicated that Crosby would not be able to travel to Rimouski to attend the Memorial Cup, and that has just been confirmed by his agent.

“Sidney Crosby will not be making a stop in Rimouski during the Memorial Cup tournament, despite efforts by the organization to attract him before the end of the competition.

Number 87’s agent, Pat Brisson, confirmed to the Journal on Monday morning that Crosby would not be traveling to Bas-Saint-Laurent.”

Brisson had previously said it was unlikely, but he has now received confirmation from his client.

It’s Official: No Sidney Crosby in Rimouski This Week

So, unlike Patrick Roy, Barry Trotz, and a few other big hockey names, Crosby will not be able to make the trip.

According to his agent, number 87 will be spending time in Europe in the coming days, as he was already overseas representing Canada at the IIHF World Championship.

Despite the effort, the Rimouski Océanic organization ultimately wasn’t able to bring in the most popular player in its history, possibly for the most important week in its history.

At 37 years old (turning 38 in August), Sidney Crosby had another outstanding individual season with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He recorded 91 points in 80 games, including 33 goals.

Note: Only three Penguins players scored more than 55 points this season.
