When discussing the greatest goaltenders in NHL history, Carey Price’s name is always near the top of the list. Lauded for his composure under pressure and his remarkable consistency in net, Price has long been an inspiration to fans and aspiring athletes around the world. His journey with the Montreal Canadiens is filled with both triumphs and tribulations, earning him a reputation as not only a world-class athlete but also a role model for perseverance and professionalism.

Yet, beneath the surface of Price’s celebrated career lies a story of resilience that few could have imagined. While he was dazzling crowds and setting records on the ice, Price was also quietly facing personal battles that remained hidden from the public eye for years. The recent revelation of a significant struggle he endured early in his career sheds new light on the challenges that even the most seemingly unshakeable athletes can face. As the hockey world reflects on this new perspective, Price’s legacy grows even more profound—not just for his achievements, but for the courage it took to overcome adversity and continue to inspire countless others.

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price can be extremely proud of his career in the National Hockey League.

Despite many challenges, it must be said that he was among the very best goaltenders of his generation, and according to many, a future member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

He also became a role model for many young people and adults alike, notably thanks to his inspiring time in the NHL and NHLPA player assistance program.

But that’s not all.

In a recent episode of the Tellement hockey podcast, the excellent journalist Martin Leclerc made a new sad revelation about Price.

Carey Price developed a serious eating disorder early in his career in Montreal

No, Carey Price didn’t have it easy when he first arrived in the NHL.

“But at a certain point, it started to get so intense for Price that he developed an eating disorder.”

It happens around the 51st minute of the Tellement hockey podcast.

Leclerc made a connection between the enormous pressure that Carey Price had on his shoulders when he arrived with the Montreal Canadiens, and the pressure Ivan Demidov will face next season.

Price could certainly offer some advice to Demidov at the Canadiens’ next training camp, if he’s available.

It’s sad to see how difficult things were for Carey at the start of his career, on top of the other challenges we already know, but at the same time, it makes what followed even more incredible.

It shows just how much character and perseverance he needed to have the career he did.

What courage and strength of character!

Price always seemed like the calm guy, never looking stressed, but now we understand that it was more of a protective shell than anything else.

He wanted to do well and, clearly, he was putting an enormous amount of pressure on himself.
