The winds of change are blowing through Buffalo, and the ripple effects could soon reach Montreal in a way that electrifies the fan base. As the Sabres’ locker room grows restless and rumors swirl about an impending roster shakeup, the Montreal Canadiens find themselves perfectly positioned to capitalize on a rare opportunity. The possibility of reuniting brothers Alex and Luke Tuch in Canadiens colors has quickly become one of the most intriguing storylines of the NHL offseason, igniting excitement and speculation among fans and insiders alike.

With the Sabres reportedly open to moving key pieces—and star winger Alex Tuch’s name surfacing as a potential trade target—the Canadiens’ front office faces a golden chance to address their need for a dynamic top-six forward. The idea of bringing the Tuch brothers together in Montreal isn’t just a feel-good narrative; it’s a move that could inject new energy into the lineup and set the stage for a new era of success. As the trade market heats up and pressure mounts on both organizations, all eyes are on Kent Hughes and Kevyn Adams to see if they’ll pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal that could reshape the future of both franchises.

Things are heating up in Buffalo, and it’s clearly a golden opportunity for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

The team missed the playoffs for a 14th consecutive season, and according to journalist Frank Seravalli, many players are fed up with the organization’s poor decisions.

In fact, as much as a quarter of the roster could be available on the trade market, including several key players.

“At least a quarter of the Sabres roster unhappy with direction of team; Owen Power, Alex Tuch, Mattias Samuelsson, other core players could enter trade market”

Among the names mentioned above, forward Alex Tuch is drawing significant attention.

He’s had two 36-goal seasons over the past three campaigns and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.

A trade between the Canadiens and Sabres to reunite brothers Alex Tuch and Luke Tuch? A popular idea among some experts

We know the Canadiens are in search of a top-six forward, and this would be a great chance for Kent Hughes to reunite the Tuch brothers within the Canadiens organization-similar to the Xhekaj brothers, Arber and Florian.

What’s more, Alex Tuch’s salary is quite manageable at $4.75 million for the 2025-2026 season, and with Sabres GM Kevyn Adams reportedly looking to move players, the asking price for Montreal might be reasonable.

Worst case, Kent Hughes can wait until the summer of 2026 to sign Alex Tuch as a free agent.

“I believe he can score 50 goals.

I mean, he has so much potential.

He made great strides this year.”

Rasmus Dahlin

This is definitely a situation to watch!
