The NHL trade winds are swirling once again, and this time all eyes are on Chicago and Montreal. With the Blackhawks reportedly open to moving their promising young forward Lukas Reichel, speculation is reaching a fever pitch among fans and insiders alike.

The Montreal Canadiens, always on the lookout for dynamic talent to bolster their roster, have emerged as a potential suitor in what could become one of the most talked-about trade scenarios of the offseason.

As rumors intensify and credible sources confirm the availability of Reichel, the hockey world is abuzz with possibilities. The 23-year-old winger, known for his speed and offensive instincts, could represent a significant addition for a Canadiens team eager to inject youth and skill into their lineup.

Meanwhile, Chicago’s willingness to listen to offers signals a desire to reshape their roster for immediate improvement, potentially setting the stage for a high-stakes deal.

With both teams at pivotal points in their respective rebuilds, the possibility of a blockbuster trade involving Reichel and perhaps a key piece from Montreal like Mike Matheson is fueling endless debate.

As negotiations continue behind closed doors, fans are left to wonder: will this be the move that changes everything for both franchises?

The excellent David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period has just confirmed the rumor involving young Chicago Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel.

He is indeed available for a trade according to multiple sources! The Montreal Canadiens can therefore make a move to acquire him, if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are still interested.

The Fourth Period: Re Lukas Reichel:

“Teams have been calling about Reichel and the Blackhawks have been listening, Chicago is looking to package assets for immediate upgrades”

So, Chicago is listening to offers for Reichel.

A trade involving Lukas Reichel and Mike Matheson: Would it be good for the Montreal Canadiens?

That’s exactly what the Hawks seem to be looking for.

Lukas Reichel, age 23, is a 6-foot, 170-pound left-handed forward who was selected in the first round by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2020 (17th overall).

He has tallied 54 points in 169 career NHL games, including 20 goals, but he was very productive (at a young age) in the AHL.

In the American Hockey League, Reichel recorded 57 points in 56 games in 2021-22, 51 points in 55 games in 2022-23, and 8 points in 10 games in 2023-24.

In 2022-23, with the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL, he put up a solid 15 points in 23 games, so he certainly appears to have good potential.

If we’re talking about immediate help (like Mike Matheson) for Chicago, I personally think they would need to add a bit more.

I believe Matheson currently holds greater value than Reichel.
