The hockey world was set abuzz this week as rumors swirled around Ivan Demidov’s immediate future, following an ambitious bid from SKA St. Petersburg to bring the highly-touted prospect back to the KHL for one more season. With speculation mounting and fans on edge, both Demidov and the Montreal Canadiens have wasted no time in addressing the situation, putting to rest any doubts about where the young star will play next year.

The swift and decisive response from both camps not only underscores the Canadiens’ commitment to their prized talent but also signals Demidov’s readiness to embrace his NHL journey without delay.

As excitement builds in Montreal for what promises to be a thrilling new chapter, attention now shifts to how the team will best support their new acquisition and who will be tasked with centering one of hockey’s most electrifying rookies. The stage is set for a season filled with anticipation, as both the player and the organization look to make a significant impact on the NHL landscape.

We already have a response from Ivan Demidov and the Montreal Canadiens following the request to return to the KHL involving him.

Let’s recall that in the past few hours, the new head coach of SKA St. Petersburg, Igor Larionov, made a clear request: he wants to bring Ivan Demidov back to the KHL.

His goal is to bring Demidov back to SKA next season, for one final campaign, before officially allowing him to make the jump to the National Hockey League (for the 2026-27 season).

Ivan Demidov Rejects SKA’s Contract Offer for Next Season and the Montreal Canadiens Confirm

That didn’t take long!

“According to Sources speaking to The RG Media, Ivan Demidov’s camp and the Montreal Canadiens have no interest in loaning him back to the KHL.

Despite Larionov’s connection to Martin Lapointe, no dice for the New SKA bench boss.”

That’s exactly what we wanted to hear!

“According to RG sources, neither the player nor the Canadiens are considering such an option.”

Despite SKA’s efforts, admittedly a bit unexpected, the expectation remains that Ivan Demidov will suit up in a Montreal Canadiens uniform next season.

He will also be the favorite, barring a surprise, to win the 2025-26 Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s rookie of the year.

Now the question is: who will be his centerman?
