The NHL landscape is shifting dramatically as one of its greatest icons, Sidney Crosby, finds himself at the heart of a brewing storm in Pittsburgh. After years of unwavering loyalty and legendary achievements with the Penguins, Crosby’s simple wish—to keep competing for the playoffs—has been met with resistance from the very organization he helped define.
Now, with credible reports confirming that Pittsburgh is preparing for a full-scale rebuild, the future of their captain has never been more uncertain. As whispers grow louder about a possible fire sale and the team’s willingness to part ways with veteran stars, all eyes are turning to Montreal, where the Canadiens are rapidly emerging as the most likely landing spot should Crosby become available.
The prospect of seeing number 87 in a new jersey is sending shockwaves through the hockey world, leaving fans and analysts alike to wonder: could this really be the end of an era in Pittsburgh, and the beginning of something extraordinary in Montreal?

The most fascinating situation in the NHL right now involves Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Number 87, who has been extremely loyal to the Penguins, had simply asked to be part of a playoff-contending team and to be able to compete.
Clearly, that request has been denied by the Penguins organization, and it almost seems like they’re trying to force Crosby out of Pittsburgh.
Instead of attempting a minor “reset” like the Washington Capitals successfully did, the Penguins appear to be on the verge of tearing everything down.
Wow.
It was the excellent Pierre LeBrun who revealed a major piece of information in this story!
The Penguins Are About to Start a Fire Sale – And It Certainly Won’t Please the Competitor That Is Sidney Crosby
In fact, LeBrun outright mentioned that Pittsburgh is the only team that is openly and clearly identified as a “seller” right now.
Yes, this smells like a long and painful rebuild for the Penguins.. and I just can’t believe Crosby would accept that as the way to end his career..
I can’t believe he would accept never playing another playoff game!
Pierre LeBrun: “The Penguins are the only true seller right now, most teams at the bottom of the standings are looking to add, get better” – TSN 1050
All teams are looking to add, to improve.. except the Penguins!
If the Penguins were to actually decide to trade Sidney Crosby, it would be a massive story, especially since the Montreal Canadiens are immediately being targeted as a potential destination.
And at the top of that list is-yes, you guessed it-the Montreal Canadiens!
I’m really looking forward to seeing what decisions Pittsburgh will make next, especially knowing that Mike Sullivan is no longer in town, as he had an incredible relationship with number 87.
