It’s not every day that Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes steps out from behind his typically reserved persona and offers up candid, eye-opening praise for a young prospect.

Yet, in a recent interview, Hughes stunned fans and insiders alike with his rare and enthusiastic comments about Ivan Demidov—a player whose relentless drive is quickly becoming the talk of the town.

Hughes didn’t just compliment Demidov’s talent; he spoke at length about the rookie’s extraordinary work ethic, even admitting that he’s actively trying to keep the young forward away from the ice to ensure he gets enough rest.

For those who have followed the Canadiens closely, these remarks may sound familiar. Hughes made similar comments about Lane Hutson last year, hinting at an emerging pattern among Montreal’s most promising stars.

But what does it really mean when the general manager is practically begging his players to slow down? Is it a sign of greatness—or could it be a warning?

With Demidov and his new training partner, Patrik Laine, pushing themselves to the limit this summer, whispers of an unstoppable duo are already circulating. What is happening behind closed doors at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard? The full story just might surprise you.

The general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, who is usually fairly neutral in his comments, had a lot to say about Ivan Demidov.

In a recent interview, Hughes praised Demidov in a way we’ve rarely seen him praise a player in recent years.

He especially had much to say about the young Demidov’s work ethic, even adding that he is currently trying to get him out of the arena.

Hughes believes that Demidov also needs to take time to rest, and that sometimes he must spend time away from the arena.

Well, well..

That reminds us of what Kent Hughes had said about a certain Lane Hutson last year.

“His work ethic is unparalleled. ..He’s been in Montreal, skating, working out and skating again, twice a day, five days a week. I’m trying to get him off the ice.”

We love it!

Ivan Demidov was back on the ice again today

Clearly, Kent Hughes’ attempts to give Demidov a break and keep him away from the CN Sports Complex in Brossard are failing.

I can’t wait to see Lane Hutson and Ivan Demidov work magic together over the coming months, and I can’t wait to see them constantly on the ice together in Brossard, fine-tuning their “game.”

This summer, Demidov’s loyal sidekick has been Patrik Laine, who is also constantly in Brossard and also working extremely hard to prepare for October.
