With Joel Armia and Christian Dvorak set to become unrestricted free agents, the Montreal Canadiens could lose two of their best defensive forwards.

If both veterans were to leave the organization and sign with a new team, Martin St-Louis would need to find short-handed replacements.

As reported by the site DansLesCoulisses, one option could be none other than Brendan Gallagher.

Brendan Gallagher Sends a Message to Canadiens Management and Is Open to a New Role

He was recently interviewed on TSN 690, where he touched on various topics and mentioned that he would be willing to play on the penalty kill for the upcoming season.

Even though the 33-year-old veteran hasn’t spent much time killing penalties in recent years, his 13 seasons of NHL experience give his coach some compelling reasons to consider him.

It’s worth noting that Gallagher had something of a resurgence in 2024-25, scoring 21 goals and forming one of the team’s most effective lines in the second half of the season alongside Josh Anderson and Christian Dvorak.

Looking at Martin St-Louis’s options for players to use on the penalty kill, obvious choices include Jake Evans and Nick Suzuki.

Both of the Canadiens’ centers are expected to play key roles, and Josh Anderson is also likely to be featured on one of the two penalty-killing units.

It will be interesting to see how Martin St-Louis handles the situation if Christian Dvorak and Joel Armia do not return to the Canadiens.
