Dan and Dani, long regarded as a harmonious duo during their weekly reviews of The Block houses, have had a heated clash over the design choices in several contestants’ houses.

The tension arose during Sunday’s episode over the Back Of House areas, including laundries, pantries and mud rooms, when Dani raised concerns to her foreman husband about a potential hazard she feared could lead to serious injury.

Dani warned that the risk in House 1, which featured platform stairs without a handrail, was so severe she could ‘fall to her death’.

However, Dan did not see eye to eye with his wife, which prompted a defensive response from him.

But while Dani viewed the issue as a major design flaw, Dan disagreed and said he saw nothing fundamentally wrong with the design.

‘Have you not walked down stairs before? It’s not that hard,’ Dan cheekily said, after his wife voiced her concern about falling.

‘Don’t patronise me,’ Dani shot back, the disagreement underscoring a rare clash between the couple.

The shock clash didn’t stop there.

In Han and Can’s ‘Tokyo Drift’ garage, Dan called out the bold paint colouring as ‘the wrong choice’.

Dani admitted the overwhelming mix of hexagonal fluorescent lights, black-and-white tiles, and printed wallpaper was simply ‘not to [her] taste’, as the pair debated how things could – and should – have been done differently.

Meanwhile, Britt and Taz’s winning Back Of House room drew Dani’s ire over one ‘bizarre’ design decision, leaving both judges scratching their heads.

Elsewhere, House 5’s European-style laundry also drew criticism from Dani, who argued it lacked sufficient functional space for a five-bedroom home.

Even Robby and Mat’s garage didn’t escape scrutiny.

The pair raised eyebrows at an unusual inclusion in the boys’ revamped floorplan, adding to the week’s controversial assessments.

The fiery debate highlighted just how closely the pair are scrutinising every detail, leaving viewers keen to see which teams will impress – or fall short – in the coming weeks.

The couple first hit national attention when they appeared on the 2012 series of The Block.

The pair, who were dating at the time, took out second place honours and a profit of $448,000.

The pair returned in 2013 for The Block All Stars series, walking away with third place and a profit of $220,000.

Dan has since taken on a role as foreman on the show and they also host the Dan vs Dani series, critiquing each team’s Room Reveals every week.

The couple tied the knot in 2018 in an intimate ceremony on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
