In the world of hockey, few names carry as much weight as Sidney Crosby. For years, the idea of Crosby donning a Montreal Canadiens jersey has lingered on the fringes of fan speculation—an enticing “what if” that seemed destined to remain a fantasy. Yet, as the NHL landscape continues to shift and the Pittsburgh Penguins face questions about their future, the possibility has once again surged into the spotlight.

The latest spark comes from the ever-engaging Processus podcast, where respected analyst Simon Boisvert reignited the conversation with a bold take: a Crosby-to-Montreal trade might not be as far-fetched as many believe. With the Canadiens in the midst of a rebuild and the Penguins at a crossroads, the timing has never felt more intriguing. Boisvert’s willingness to float a concrete trade offer—one that doesn’t gut Montreal’s top prospects—has only added fuel to the fire, sending shockwaves through the hockey community and reigniting dreams in the hearts of Habs fans everywhere.

As speculation swirls and emotions run high, one thing is clear: the idea of Sidney Crosby making a triumphant return to his home province is no longer just idle chatter. The debate is alive, and the hockey world is watching.

Sidney Crosby’s name just won’t stop being linked to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

The buzz had quieted down for a while, but it’s ramped back up in the past few hours with the release of the latest episode of the excellent podcast Processus, hosted by Simon Boisvert and Mathias Brunet.

In the episode, Boisvert mentions that he would be open to the idea of seeing Sidney Crosby land with the Montreal Canadiens.

First, he’s on board because “it’s not that improbable,” according to him.

“The reason I’m on board is because it’s not that improbable. Will it actually happen? I wouldn’t bet my house on it, but there’s still a path that could lead to the Penguins trading him.”

– Simon Boisvert

He then went on to suggest a concrete offer.

Simon Boisvert weighs in on the price to pay for acquiring Sidney Crosby

Here’s what a potential trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins could look like involving number 87, according to him:

“I don’t think Ivan Demidov, Michael Hage, or David Reinbacher are in any danger.

So we’d probably be talking about the two first-round picks this year and a lower-tier prospect currently playing for the Laval Rocket, in junior, or at the college level.”

– Simon Boisvert

That would look like this:

To Montreal:
– Sidney Crosby

To Pittsburgh:
– 16th overall pick in 2025 (1st round)
– 17th overall pick in 2025 (1st round)
– A prospect like Joshua Roy

Would you make this trade?

It might sound surprising, but like Boisvert, I believe that if the Pittsburgh Penguins do trade Sidney Crosby.. it will be on his terms, and they’ll do it as a favor to him.

So, the price may not be astronomical.
