One of the biggest beneficiaries of the new Torpedo bats is Jazz Chisholm Jr., who recently spoke about them and revealed some interesting details about the New York Yankees’ latest weapon.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. kicked off the 2025 season with three home runs for the New York Yankees, but he wasn’t the only one. Several of his teammates also launched multiple moonshots to start the year, drawing attention—not just for their power, but for the use of the so-called Torpedo bats.
Following the Yankees’ sweep of the Brewers, Chisholm Jr. spoke with YES Network about the new bats, offering insight into their impact and revealing how he started using one after being influenced by his teammates.
One of the first things Chisholm Jr. shared about the Torpedo bat is that it provides a slight advantage at the plate. “Oh, I love my bat, you know what I mean? I think you could tell it’s working pretty well for me, but I mean, it doesn’t feel like a different bat—it just helps you in a little way, I guess…”
Chisholm Jr. backed up his words with another big performance in the Yankees’ series finale against Milwaukee, blasting two more home runs in a 12-3 victory. He posted a .417 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage in that game, a major step up from Game 2, where he had just one homer and hit .250.

Chisholm Jr. Says Torpedo Bat Doesn’t Change Ball Flight
Despite the buzz around the Torpedo bat, Chisholm Jr. insisted it doesn’t affect the way the ball comes off the barrel.
“I wouldn’t say it comes off the bat differently. I think I still hit the ball with the same exit velocity as I always did. It just gives you a feeling like you have more to work with. Like, you probably don’t have more to work with, but it feels like it. It gives you that extra confidence in your head to be able to go out there and hit anything.”
Volpe and Wells Influenced Chisholm Jr. to Make the Switch
Chisholm Jr. admitted that Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe played a big role in getting him to try the Yankees’ Torpedo bat. After testing it in a MLB spring training game just a few weeks ago, he immediately made it his new weapon to start the season.
“Who was it?… I think Wells and Volpe. I went into one spring training game and used Volpe’s bat, and I think I hit a double. I think we were playing against the Tigers, and I was like, ‘I’ll use it.’ Then the next game, I had it, hit a homer, and I was like, ‘This is my new bat.’”
“I started using it the last week and a half of spring, I think, and I mean, I just never looked back after that. It still felt like my bat, feels good, hit the ball off the barrel, feels comfortable in the box.”
However, Chisholm Jr. made it clear he doesn’t know much about the design of the bat, even though it has helped his teammates launch more home runs in the first three games of the 2025 MLB season. “I don’t know what else to tell you. I don’t know the science of it—I just play baseball.”
Chisholm Jr. Unbothered by Online Criticism
Despite growing discussion about the Torpedo bats, Chisholm Jr. admitted he hasn’t paid much attention to the online chatter. He remains focused on doing his job on the field.
“I haven’t really seen the Torpedo stuff online, honestly. I just call it a Torpedo bat, but I have not really seen it online. I don’t know what the talk is right now and what people are saying, but like I said, for us, we’re just out here playing baseball and doing our thing.”
