Dave Hughes left viewers shocked on Wednesday night when he appeared on The Front Bar in a wheelchair.
Hughes suffered multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung following a heavy collision during a charity AFL Legends Game last week.
The veteran comedian, 54, looked a shadow of his former self when he was wheeled out by a carer to discuss his on-field injury and hospitalisation.
‘I knew I was in mad trouble but I didn’t go off the field because I’m a hero! I’d never had broken ribs before,’ he told hosts.
He added: ‘I had the option of having an ambulance but I was on this show a while ago mocking [AFL star] Mitch McGovern for taking one, so I knew I couldn’t do it!’
Reflecting on the game where the injury occurred, Dave joked about his perseverance: ‘This is a goal that will echo through eternity! I had five broken ribs when I did that!’

Dave’s injury occurred after a crunching clash with former AFL players Andrew Embley, Daniel Gorringe and Mitch Robinson, with Dave bravely continuing to play despite the obvious pain.
Remarkably, he even stayed on to celebrate with teammates following the final siren before his condition worsened overnight.
His wife later drove him to hospital, where doctors confirmed the extent of his injuries and began treatment.
Dave, who has since revealed that his clash with Embley caused his most serious injuries, left hospital on Sunday.
‘Still having struggles talking, I just had an endone,’ he told FOX FM.
‘There’s only so much — I can’t go too deep into my lungs, there’s still a hole there.
‘Would I swap? No. I don’t know. I am loving the attention, you know that. You know what I’m like.
‘(The pain) just hits you, I was in an Uber yesterday just groaning in the back and the guy had no idea what was going on. “You’re taking the corners too fast, man, you’ve got to go slow round these corners”.’

Dave, who was clattered a few times in the match, isn’t holding any grudges but says Gorringe should have warned him.
‘Of all the acts that happened – he just couldn’t give me a heads-up he was going to do it?’ Dave said.
‘Fev (Brendan Fevola) knows what it’s like, it’s a bit of WWE where you give a heads-up that you’re going to smash someone. But he did not.
‘I had no idea he was going to smash me in the ruck there. If I had’ve known that I would’ve run the other way!’
Gorringe has since apologised for his knock on Dave in the match.
‘I just want to say I am so sorry for my little thump on you last night that has obviously caused so much damage, you look so sore right now,’ he told 92.9 Triple M Breakfast with Xav & Katie.
‘How brave were you, big fella, to continue with the game… I’m thinking of you.’
The All Stars finished with bragging rights after defeating Victoria by eight points.
