The world of NHL trades is a maze of unexpected twists and behind-the-scenes decisions that can alter the trajectory of entire franchises.

Sometimes, it’s not the blockbuster deals that make the biggest waves, but the quieter moves that ripple through a team’s plans and reshape its future.

In recent weeks, the Montreal Canadiens have found themselves at the center of such intrigue, with the acquisition of Zachary Bolduc setting off a chain reaction that few saw coming.

As rumors swirled and speculation mounted, an intriguing revelation emerged: one transaction may have quietly closed the door on another high-profile addition.

With fans and analysts alike eager to understand the true impact of these moves, it’s clear that what happens in the front office doesn’t always stay behind closed doors.

The Canadiens’ latest roster decisions have sparked new questions about the team’s direction, its ambitions, and the opportunities that may have slipped away.

As we dig deeper, it becomes evident that every trade tells a story—and sometimes, the most significant chapters are written in the margins.

The excellent Marco D’Amico made an interesting revelation regarding the acquisition of Zachary Bolduc by the Montreal Canadiens, in connection with Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Yes, you read that right.

According to reports from DLC, the acquisition of Bolduc essentially blocked the possibility of Kuznetsov joining the Canadiens.

Contrary to what many believed, the Canadiens were indeed interested in signing Kuznetsov, but they changed their minds after completing the trade with the St. Louis Blues.

It’s also worth noting that Kuznetsov was completely open and interested in playing for the Canadiens.

However, all signs now point to it never happening, especially following the signing of left-handed center Joe Veleno..

We highly recommend Marco D’Amico’s full explanation regarding Evgeny Kuznetsov and the Montreal Canadiens.

“They now feel there’s no room for him (Kuznetsov) in Montreal, but they definitely inquired about him before acquiring Zachary Bolduc – that, I can confirm.”

In short, it looks like Kuznetsov will now have to look elsewhere.

I think he could have been an intriguing and low-cost option for the Montreal Canadiens, especially since he still managed 55 points in the NHL in 2023.. But it’s also far from a disaster if he never signs here.

I’m not so sure he’d be a major upgrade over Kirby Dach – far from it.
