She detailed a scene we didn’t get to see

During MAFS Australia season 12, Paul Antoine famously punched a door when he discovered that his on-screen wife, Carina Mirabile, had a fling with Quavo, a rapper and singer most often associated with the now-defunct hip hop group Migos. It quickly became the most talked-about moment of the series as everyone from viewers to charities condemned his physical moment.

Producers eventually intervened in the tense moment, instigating strict rules for Paul which he inevitably broke. His door punch followed him for the rest of the show and eventually contributed to Carina’s decision to walk away from the relationship.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I can’t stop thinking about it. I should never have reacted this way. I promise you that’s never going to happen again,” he said at the time.

Though Carina has spoken a little about her ex’s physical moment, in her new podcast, she revealed brand new details and her honest feelings about the whole thing.

Carina was surprised by Paul punching the door after his own confession on MAFS

In the first episode of her This Is Chaos podcast with celebrity hairstylist Jacob Muller, MAFS bride Carina revealed how Paul had detailed his own past before punching the door.

“He openly said that he was into swinging with his ex-partner,” she shared. “I thought the boundaries were okay [to discuss our past sex lives]. Then he was just so upset and dramatic about the whole Quavo situation. I was trying to suppress and calm him down. I kept apologising, he kept saying he was embarrassed that I openly said that.”

The moment confused Carina because she didn’t understand why his swinging past was okay and her fling with Quavo was not. After Paul left the apartment to talk with producers, he returned but was more annoyed than ever.

Carina explained: “He was angry, pacing and breathing heavily. I just said, ‘Let’s go to bed’. So we’re lying in bed, I could hear him panting, and I asked, ‘What’s going on? Are you okay? He got up and said, ‘No, I’m not okay’.

“Then I got angry and turned over and said ‘I’m going to bed’. Oh my goodness, then I remember he got up, and that was it for him. Once I’d turned over, he got up and bang, bang. I was like, ‘Holy s**t, this has now gotten so much more serious.’ I was freaking out thinking, how did it get from that comment to this situation?”

Carina’s feelings changed when she watched the show

When watching the show from the comfort of her own home, MAFS’ Carina found herself guilty because of the way she reacted to Paul punching the door.

“While it was all happening, I was processing it all and didn’t know what was happening. I thought he was coming from a place of having to create this drama for a television show,” she explained. “He hadn’t shown me any bad behaviour signs or signs of domestic violence at all [before that night], and it all happened so out of the blue.”

She is now trying to educate herself better on how to notice the signs of domestic violence.
