He might not have won the grand finale, but Shaun Micallef certainly got viewers talking in Monday night’s episode of Dancing With The Stars. The comedian and his dance partner, Ash-Leigh Hunter, made it to the top two with their freestyle performance to the Broadway classic ‘If My Friends Could See Me Now’.

After receiving enormous praise from the judges, he joined host Dr Chris Brown in the skybox to reflect on the routine and find out his score. The conversation appeared to go off script when Chris admitted he would miss having conversations with Shaun on the show, and the pair discussed plans to get lunch together.

“Are you serious? No, this is not for television, this is a serious, human moment, alright? Do you want to have lunch at some point?” Shaun asked, to which Chris nervously replied, “I’d love to”.

Shaun then stumbled his words, uttered “oh my god” under his breath, and leaned in to give Chris a brief kiss on the lips.

The audience erupted into laughter and applause as both Sonia Kruger and the panel of judges appeared at a loss for words.

“What is happening?!” Sonia remarked, followed by judge Sharna Burgess, who repeated, “What is happening?!”.

The hilarious moment appeared to divide viewers on social media, with some people describing it as “so funny” and others calling it “bizarre”.

“It’s the @drchrisbrown x Micallef kiss for me,” Brittany Hockley commented, while another added, “You really do entertain with everything you give us Shaun”.

“Did not approve of the kiss between Shaun and Dr Chris. Not appropriate at all,” a third argued, followed by someone else who said, “I also thought it was inappropriate and not necessary”.

“That whole kiss was scripted in for a shock factor probably to drum in votes etc,” a different user replied, with one person writing, “That kiss was totally unwanted”.

After the judges awarded Shaun a score of 37 points, including a perfect 10 from Helen Richey, he boldly asked Chris to rate their kiss.

“What score did you give me, big boy?” he asked, to which a self-proclaimed “flustered” Chris responded, “I gave you an 11 out of 10, Shaun Micallef!”.

In the end, Home and Away’s Kyle Shilling beat out Shaun Micallef and took home the coveted mirrorball trophy alongside his dance partner, Lily Cornish.

“I’m feeling mixed emotions, as it’s come to an end,” he said. “We built such a strong family here, and you can see all the beautiful people behind us. It’s amazing to be able to stand here and hold this trophy, knowing all the hard work we put in has paid off.”

This marks Lily’s second Dancing With The Stars win after she took home the mirrorball trophy alongside Grant Denyer in 2022.
